I replaced my in dash speakers last spring. The size in my 89 YJ was a 4x6 inches. The were a pain in the ass. At the time I was working at a dealership, It took me and a BMW tech the better part of 3 to 4 hours to replace them. They pop out from the back which is what makes it so difficult. So if you do it make sure to use a good set of speakers so it makes it worth the time. I used pioneers and they sound great. Hope this Helps. Evan[addsig]

4" X 6" speaker are the size and like Jeeper89 said it is a real job to get the change made. Get yourself a stereo shop to put em in and pay the price for the install. Most of the stereo shops will install if you buy there pretty cheap. Good Luck Tug

If you do decide to do it yourself, make sure you undue the bolts holding on the metal speaker grill. These bolts are under the dash and go right across to the ashtray. You can pull out the grill about an inch or two making it a little easier to get your hand behind the speaker.[addsig]

So you'd take it to the dealer!

its not possiable to just pull the speaker grills of and do it that way?[addsig]

nope, not possible. just have to find the slimmest 4x6's they make and get your hand all scratched up by protruding screws and crap.

you may have already put your speakers in, but I great add-on to any speaker set up are some tweeters. They are very small, can me mounted on the top of the dash. basically they just put out the very high range pitches and it gives you a surround-sound feel in your car. if you put your ear up close they don't sound like much but sittin back and listen to them and they make a big difference. They aren't complicated at all, just need a cross-over box that leads to the tweeters and 4x9's...just get an audio shop to put them in, biiiiiiiiiiiiig improvment[addsig]

i sawed out the metel strokes in a round form,if you do it in a good

way,you are able to put in 4inch round speaker.

mine are from jvc,100 watts and it works fine...

for the sake of whatever....if you have a cd-changer(box where you can put more then 5 cd's in at the same time)use a old metal army box to place it in.

nobody can steal it if you lock it and tighten it to the car, mine is on the wheelcover.

also, when you drive in mud and your top is open it will stay nice 'n dry....

ps.do you call this box a cd-changer?

Dude! I don' t know what all of the fuss is about with the front speakers here. My friend said that the stereo shop had to take his whole dash off to put them in...thats so stupid I swear. I put mine in in about 30 mins. all you gotta do is just reach up from underneath and put em in there. The only thing is you might scratch your hands up some. And it also might depend on whether you have speakers in there now as well....my jeep had been stripped of all its speakers and stereo equipment by the former owner.[addsig]
