Well I have been hunting for a Yj for a while now. Saw some nice prospects but haven't found "the one".

Ran into the guy I sold my '88 Yj to this weekend. He had the head rebuilt, fixed the rear main seal, and replaced the radiatior, among other minor items.

I asked him if he'd mind me taking it around the block, and being the good Jeeper that he is, he graciously let me. I was shocked how smooth it ran. It was not a good idea for me to drive it because now I am considering buying it back.

Here's the scenario...
bought it for $500, put less than $50 into it.
sold it for $1500 with the stock tires & wheels from my XJ
He wants $2500.

It would fly through inspection and is emmissions exempt here in PA.

Should I do it? Yeah, I know I said I wanted a '91 but this Yj is absolutely rust-free. I mean not so much as a spot. I'm thinking after making $1000 off of it before then I would actually only have $1500 in it (I know, it's kind of irrelevant and It will actually cost me $2500).

I dunno, $2500 for a clean, rust-free YJ... the only thing I would think it could need is a carb. I have a Motorcraft 2100 with adapter plate in my garage.

I told him I'd have to wait until April 25th when I close on selling my old house to buy it (actually to buy me some time to mull it over).

Whattya all think? I should swing by there to snap a pic to post, huh?

Well, given the circumstances, it seems like a no-brainer. If it was me, it'd be in the driveway tomorrow.

TC, remember what happened the last time you told someone you'd be back at a later date to buy a YJ? Grab it now or you'll be sorry!! Heck, give him something for a downpayment, whatever it takes....you've got an extra kid or two you could spare for a month, don't you?

Drove it again today. 2 weeks till settlement

It's got the stock wheels and tires off my XJ on it (Charcoal Grizzlys). It looks pretty dag-gone good.

He offered to drive it up here and hold the title until after I pay him... I told him I waited this long for another YJ I can wait 2 more weeks. Truth be told I just don't feel comfortable doing that.

Unless I see a better deal, that thing will be mine again by the end of April.

Remember it?(with old wheels/tires):

Ew... JK sounds like it's alot nicer jeep now. Your a lucky dog about that main seal.. mine just started spewing oil AGAIN!

Here's my .02

If you want a '91 or newer............hold out for a '91 or newer. Why put the $2,500 out for something you got rid of once?

Although it's true that I want a 91 (not newer, a 91), it's only for the 4.0L and fuel injection. That was with the midset that I like the old rollbars but want dependability if it is ever need as a commuter. Well I don't plan on using it as a commuter. I want to build it without having to comprimise offroad ability for streetability.

I'm going to put a good, strong, reliable carb in it. Probably a new one, which will be adressed in another thread if I go through with buying it.

That said, I really didn't want to get rid of that Jeep. It was too hard to pass up the $1500 when I needed to buy lumber, drywall, fencing, etc for this house. In a nutshell I had to sell it, otherwise I'd have kept it. What made it easier to sell was the fact that it needed engine work. What made it hard was the condition of the tub and frame... they're rust free and this ain't exactly Arizona if ya knowutimsayin.

It's (now) a good solid Jeep to build on and they are hard to find, especially at $2500.
