Steering wheel peeling

This is the second vehicle I've had this problem with but I haven't seen it mentioned here. I've had my TJ now for almost 8 years and the leather steering wheel is losing its finish/top layer/whatever. So now when I drive my hands get little black pieces of leather crumbs all over. This happened on a Thunderbird once and I solved that problem by selling it. Not gonna happen with this one.

I guess a steering wheel cover is the way to go but does anyone have any preference? I don't want it to look cheap and I don't mind spending a few extra bucks for a good solution.

Ideas?

Leather wrap would be my suggestion. Do you use hand lotion or do you use armour all on your interior?. Most of the time, those have been found to be the culprit on these situations however, having the top off and subjecting the steering wheel on direct sunlight also contributes to the deterioration and aging of the material.

So you think any leather lace on cover would do fine? I don't use any hand lotion and I put no armor all or conditioner on the steering wheel at all. Must just be the sun, weather etc.

Yep!, you really dont use lotion, inconceivable i'm tellin y'a. lol. I think the stitch on leather wraps are more tastefull to look at than the slip on ones. That's just my opinion.

those ones you wrap with the leather or stitch with the leather thread are very nice. they look high dollar but aren;t really that expensive. i would do one of those.
