Starting problems

I'm having some issues with my 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. For a little while, my Jeep was dying on me, and simply jumping it off was enough. I assumed at first that there was something simple draining the battery, but it finally gave up and wouldn't drive at all. I could get it to turn over and run while jumping it, but when you remove the cables, it dies.

I was under the assumption that it was an alternator issue. I took off the alternator, and replaced it. Same problem. Jump it off, and it runs fine. Until you unhook the other vehicle. Then it just dies.

Is there an issue where jeeps don't run can't run off of just the alternator? This doesn't seem right.

Has anyone else had this problem before?

First rule when you have a bad battery, the alternator will work twice as much to keep up with the electrical components to function in your jeep as well as trying to recharge what could possibly be a bad battery. IF you replace the alternator and have a bad battery, the alternator is short lived. The battery must have a full charge when you have a fresh alternator. If both components fail, the engine will not run. The PCM i beleive in this case is the switching device that triggers the charging rate for the alternator. That's another component that needs to be checked and verified.
