Need help getting my new Jeep home (wheel question)
Take a look at the spade connectors, under the relay, and all the connectors back to the fuel pump (to include grounds). I´m not real familiar with the setup on the 86, most of my experience is on 87-90/91.
Disconnecting the fuel line at the front and the filter and blowing some air backwords through the system, has shown me in the past just how much crude and rust flakes can built up in the hard lines.
If the fuel pump relay is anything like the post 86, the holder/connector block can be removed and turned upside down, what´s under there may be shocking. On the 87 and newer models the fuel pump ran through the starter relay, which can also get pretty cruddy inside.
The 87 had a wiring glitch in the fuel pump relay, don´t know if it was a holdover from the 86 or not, two wires have to be removed and the locations reversed, a recall list for your 86 may be helpfull.
