Squeeling fan belt

I have a 94 4.0, it sat in my back yard for 4 years and I finally got it finished, I removed the airconditioning, put on a new belt and when I started it up the belt squeels for about 20 seconds and stops, when I'm wheeling and shut it down and start it back it might squeel and might not. Could this be my water pump starting to go?

Could be any of the pulleys really; did you check the tension of the belt? Mine squeals like CRAZY when wet...

If the belt is new it could be a bit lose. If not check all of your pulleys and make sure they all spin nice and smooth

Make sure the tension on the belt is adequate and there's no mis-aligned pulleys.

It was a brand new belt when this all started, all the pullies are free, would it help to sand the pullies with sandpaper?

Thanks guys, I thought the belt was tight, but it wasn't, do you guys think it is worth investing in the kriket II by gates for checking tension or just go by ear?

Just test it the old fashion way; on my 2.5L YJ with AC, the tension is right when you can deflect it 1" in the middle of the longest run (on top). Dont remember if it was the Chiltons or Haynes manuals that had this information, but one of them does...

X2.... you don't need some fancy little thingy to tell you if your belt is tight enough.
