squeak when turning

well, i got an annoying squeak and hoped you guys could help in the diagnosis.

It happens when i drive in forward or reverse ONLY when the wheel is turned(in either direction).

Wont happen when the car is sitting still and turning the wheel, and wont happen when driving straight.

I know that my front passenger side u-joint needs to be replaced and will be in the next few weeks, is this what could be causing the squeak?

Thanks in advance

thanks bounty.... i checked both front u-joints. the right one has some play and definately needs fixing, however the left has no play and seems fine. should i replace both at the same time or may that not be necessary?

I am having the same problem. I had new 4 piston front breaks put on last year and was told this might be the problem. I am dropping it off at the dealership tomorrow. They are convinced its "typical" buildup on the brake caliper. Which is rubbing when I turn. I will let you know what happens.

replaced the front right u-joint and the squeak is GONE. the pins inside the ujoint were pretty much schredded it one of the 4 crosses. not too bad of a job. only reason it took more than an hour was we had the wrong size ujoint and had to take a trip out to the local auto zone and of course bashing the ujoint out in the first place took FOREVER.

our method was to place a large socket underneath the u joint(something large enough that it can fit into as it comes out) and a impact socket on the opposing side of the ujoint. then we BASHED the socket until the ujoint head dislodged from its position.

someone explain how a claw hammer works better than a sledge hammer at accomplishing this.

again, thanks for the help in answering my question!
