Speaker bar

Just wondering if anybody else has heard of stuffing the speaker bar with something like pillow stuffing to make the sound better? A fellow jeeper at work told me this and I thought he was crazy

Putting foam in small enclosure like a jeep's roll bar speaker thing won't do much at all. The idea is you are fooling the speaker to think its in a larger area. If I'm not mistaken it will just lower the bass the speaker puts out giving it a more crisp sound. It generally shouldn't be packed because then you will be closing up the area. Seeing as its a small area anyway its hard not to pack it. Normally in sub boxes the material hangs off the walls or is laid in the bottom not compressing the foam. I know they make thin material that would work for the jeep's roll bar speakers but you are better off buying a higher quality speaker if you are worried about the sound. Foam is cheap enough to try and easy enough to remove if doesn't work out for you.

I have never heard of doing such a thing to the sound bar. Love my Kicker speakers tho. Perfect fit in the factory holes, fyi.

Works for the dash board speakers.Problem with the Dash speakers is it is completely open behind them.So to some how build a box or put some insulation behind them helps to contain the sound.

If you cqn find an 80s BMW 5 series inthe junkyard, their rear speakers have boxes that fitthe bolt holes of our speakers. I used to have a set but got rid of them with my bmw

Foaming or packing your sound bar is an attempt to channel or direct your sound. The right way is to use Dynamat. This mat directs the sound downward into the jeeps cabin. I used this mat in my front dash when I changed the factory 5x9? to 5 1/4 rounds. I used a salad bowl as my template. I trimmed the mat to conform around the bowl , then with its self adhering back I attached it to the speaker surround after I installed it. The difference is amazing. I have 3/4 thick in my sub box with a 8 inch kicker sub as well.
