Spacer lift kits?

Very new owner of my first jeep ( 1 week today YEAH!), 2001 XJ. I want to lift it a little and have been contemplating the Rubicon 2" economy lift package. Do to my mechanical ineptitude and lack of quality tools I would probably have it professionally installed unless I can bribe a more talented friend to lend a hand. In perusing EBAY today I came across a 2" lift kit at "My 4x4 store" that says it will do the same lift for 1/4 the price, "Part number: K30003-4 2" Complete FusionLift Lift Kit". The kit is just 4 spacers, no add a leaf and no shocks that the Rubicon kit includes, also no new brake line, so I understand why it is less expensive.

Is this kit a viable option for someone on a very limited budget? What would the instalation procedure be? What are the pros and cons?

First of all an XJ doesn't use Coil Spring Spacers in the Rear. An XJ has Leaf Springs. A Grand Cherokee has Rear Coil Springs.

Part number: K30003-4 2" Complete FusionLift Lift Kit is for these Vehicles:
Jeep 1993-1998 Grand Cherokee ZJ
1997-2006 TJ Wrangler

This Kit will NOT go on your XJ.

This 2" Lift Kit does and I do not recommend it:

Part number: K30003-2
Jeep XJ Cherokee 2" Complete Front and rear Lift Kit
Includes

• 2" Front polyurethane spacers
• Rear add a leaf kit with center bolts

Do NOT get this Kit! Add-A-Leafs flatten out over a short period of time, especially the Short Add-A-Leafs.

These 2 Kits from Rough Country are much better for an XJ if money is an Issue:

XJ 2" Spacers Shackles Lift Kit
XJ 2" Lift Kit Shocks (This Kit uses Spacers and Shackles) $189.95


Shackles offer more Flex for your Leaf Springs and will not cause Axle Wrap like Lift Blocks do or Add-A-Leafs which flatten out.

There are so many ways to do a 2" Lift on an XJ, however, any 2" Lift on an XJ does NOT require new shocks, extended brakes lines, or an adjustable track bar. It only needs:

2" to 2.5" Lift Coil Springs or 2" Spacers.
and
2" or 2.5" Lift Leaf Springs or 2" Shackles if your Leaf Springs are still good.

Nothing More; Nothing Less. Stock Components will do up to 3"s of Lift IMHO.

It will definitely be my daily driver, but I would also like to be able to do some off roading too. I live in Western NY near Buffalo so a sand rig is not a priority, not a lot of deserts in the area, mud and snow are more of a concern lol. Not looking to do anything extreme just a minor build I can have some fun with.

If you have a friend who can help you, you can do a simple 2" Budget Lift or even a simple 3" Lift so that you can run with 31" M/Ts. Some M/Ts are good on road as well as offroad. I run 32" M/Ts everywhere. The tires I have I Mud (10%) with as well as City Drive (80%) and Highway (10%) with. They come with Sipping to wick water away from the lugs. I paid $640 for 4 installed and with warranty.

Do you have wrenches, a hacksaw, and an electric drill. If you do, you can do it with a little help of a friend IMHO. My 16 year old son and I have done it. I have been offroading since 1972 on our Farm near Ithaca, NY.

Let me know if you are interested in a great 3" Lift for around $100 or less that would be a Great Daily Driver as well as for offroad. It can be done for a 1" Lift, a 2" Lift, a 3" Lift and 4" Lift. A 4" Lift will run around $250 and can run 32" M/Ts.

No I am not selling you something, I am only going to share with you how it is done. You will have to get your hands dirty though.

Ithica is not that far, my son just graduated from Cornell, might have to hit you up for info on trails if I ever get this truck built. Excuse my ignorance but what are M/Ts? I know AT and M/S but M/T, mud/terrain? Thank you again for all your help.
