well late monday night i was hopping in my jeep to run up to my moms when i slipped and feel into our water meter which gashed my leg up pretty bad but i didnt think it was anymore more than a little cut so i went on up to moms and by the time i got there i was woozy from blood and covered in it from head to toe... so to the ER i go .... i get 30 stitches in and out on my knee and get sent home .. i go back 2 days later for a check up and i have an infection ... so ok they give me some antibiotics and send me on my way ... well i woke up this morning and aside from the regular pain and trouble walking my right leg is like double in size from mid-thigh down to my foot ... so i decide screw the ER and go to my regular doc and i get a real hard dose of what a bad infection can do ... he told me the infection was extremely serious and gave me 2 injections of high powered antibiotics 88 bucks a shot and a script of cipro also 80 bucks and tells me if it hasnt went down tomorrow i'm going to have to be put in the hospital and started on IV drip .. and if that doesnt work i could lose my leg .... i mean WTF that was just the heaviest thing ever laid on me so i clean it 3 - 4 times a day and i mean its just a cut that got a lil mud in it how does it go from that to yeah if the drugs dont work we could be looking at amputating *spelling..... sorry guys i just needed to vent i never really deal with this kinda stuff to well i've always been a fast healer and never broken a bone or anything really serious so i was floored with this news ... but whoever that reads this thanks for your time .. and i threw in a pic of the cut right after it was sewn up before the bad infection started which just looks like a cut hard to believe it can cause so much probs

Hang in there, man! I know how dangerous those type of infections can be. My wife's Aunt had something similar happen about a month ago. Hopefully the antibiotics do the trick, and be sure that many of us here on Jeepz will be praying for you. Keep us updated.

Sorry to hear about your luck, hopefully it will recover quickly now that you've got some antibiotics on board

Just keep it elevated and dont miss your meds. Chill dude. When i got shot they said I might loose my leg. Belive me there not so fast to remove a limb. My father in law is 93 and just went through the same. He got a small cut but it got infected. It ran its course and looked terrible but it went away and he's walking good know.

I'll keep prayers and positive thoughts headed your way. Just take it easy and do what the doc says. Gnarly gash, dude! Got any more pics? You can PM them to me, in case others here don't want to see the gore. (Us retired paramedics still can't resist seeing it, though.)

Hang in there and get better soon!!

I just want to know one thing......Is the water meter ok? LOL Seriously though Man you're going to be fine, believe me I've been to the ER many times for gashes that got bad infections. You will be in our prayer's. Let us know how you are doing.

Drew

Was your tetanus up to date? We all forget to get that darn thing since it's 10 years or so. Good Luck and with the heavy's they got you on, I'm sure you'll do fine. I think many times they tell you the worst so you don't slack on the ABs. Take Care and Good Luck.

Thanks for sharing... Sorry for your condition...

I had a bad infection in my incision wound in my chest when I was in the hospital from a car accident. I now have a scar that looks like my chest was scooped out with an ice cream scoop. Keep some hydrogen peroxide near, getting that free oxygen in there is more important than anyone can tell you.

Wishing you the best

thanks guys really means alot to me and all the thoughts, prayers and meds have been working cause the doc said i'm pulling out of it and i feel 100 times better and the swelling has gone down tremendously but i'm not out of the woods yet i have to go back monday for another look and another shot ... but after i got the heads up i was stressed on it but i've been cleaning it 3 to 4 times a day with peroxide and finishing up with betadine and triple antibiotic ointment and it seems to be working ... but thanks again sorry i left you hanging with no update but doc orders are to keep off of it and stay elevated and hydrated so this is the first time i've hobbled my way to the comp chair hahah

Great news!

Once you get better and off the antibotics, make sure to get some yogurt with active cultures to get the good bugs back into your gut and that will speed up getting your body back into good working order.

The bad side effect from those powerful antibotics is that they go through your system and kill even the good bacteria that your body needs to digest food.

So glad to hear things are doing good.

x100 what Xjay said

You want 100% organic yogurt, or even some organic milk. Whatever you get, not homogenized or pasturized. You want the living enzymes and bacterial flora that the antibiotics will be killing. You can also go to an organic food store and find digestive enzymes
