Ok this isnt very technical but here are a few questions i have.... What is largest tire I can put on stock TJ without getting any rub? And has anyone trailered anything if so what is the max you could accually tow ? Has anyone put any type of insulation on the underside of their hard top. What was it and how did it work out. Ive herd the product Hurculiner mentioned a few times could you use some thing like this? 8-) [addsig]

I believe the largest size you can run with no rubbing is 30x9.5. Thats what my brothers TJ came from the factory with, and what i have on mine. Dont know on the trailoring. Also dont know on the hardtop due to the fact that i dont have one. But the only thing ive heard of using the Herculiner for is the inside of the tub, never heard of it on the hardtop, so i dont know.

Hope this helps a little anyway

Thanks for the info. Im hoping to upgrade wheels and tires this summer . Anyone running BFG all terain? How bad are they on the freeway? My TJ is my daily mode of transpertation.[addsig]

31's are the biggest you can fit with your TJ stock. I have seen a liner for the hardtop at californiatops.com They look pretty good and are relatively inexpensive. I am considering getting the liner for next winter. I also am in the market for 31's for my TJ. Let me know if you get them and how they work out![addsig]

Yeah 31's are the bigest you can go with stock on the TJ, but you might get a little rub in the front. I was going to go with 31's but decided to go 30. I do use the BFG all-terain and I love them. They are no prob on the high-way, only slightly louder and with the hardtop it is no big thing. 8-) [addsig]

BFG all terrain is a great tire... its very good on road and quite impressive off road for that sort of tire. just keep it aligned and rotated, and make sure your suspension is in good shape... i've had a set on every vehicle i've owned, it just happens that they were on when i bought the vehicles.... keep your suspension/steering in good shape, i went through those tires quick... that goes with any tire though[addsig]

i trailered my buddies yj on a car dolly with my tj. it was a little sluggish but not too bad, i could feel every bump. I just had my hitch installed and the max trailer capacity for a 4.0L tj is 3500lbs. I've also been looking into tires like you and it seems that these guys are correct with the max being 31x10.5's[addsig]

I plan on using some sort of bed liner soon to enhance the durability of my YJ's tub so I can not somment on that. Some TJ's will fit 31's, that was a tire option for TJ's. Some can only fit 30's without rubbing because of a different suspension set up. I have a 94 YJ and tow a small trailer with either two dirtbikes or a motorcycle and have never had a problem. I agree a little sluggish on steep grades at high altitude, but nothing shifting to 4th won't cure.

last summer we drove a TJ with a utility trailer full of camping supplies from philly to mexico and back... i drove it for the last leg of the trip back. it was the sahara model, so i had the I6 motor and such... but it did allright. pretty average for towing, acceleration was what i expected - slow... and braking was even worse. if i hit the brakes too hard they would just lock up the tires kuz the trailer was pretty heavy. just be careful towing with it. 31's are the biggest you can fit without a lift. i know the sahara package came with 30's...

Some TJ's will fit 31's, that was a tire option for TJ's. Some can only fit 30's without rubbing because of a different suspension set up.
this is the first time i've ever heard of this... i was under the assumption (and am still pretty sure) all TJ's have the same suspension - quadracoil whatnot... but i'm not saying that JPS4JEEP is wrong or anything, but i'm not sure...
