So why'd ya loan it out?

So this guy I know bought a little old wrangler. It had about 190k miles on it, but it ran pretty well, was in pretty good shape, and was cheap. He and his wife drover it for a few months. Everything was fine. Then one day a friend of his had a breakdown and so he lent her the jeep to get back and forth to work for a couple of days.

DAY 2:

So the second day comes around and he gets a call from her whiles she's on the road. She says that the Jeep is really overheating and making a weird squeaking noise. She says she's going to drive it in to work because she already has been. As he's telling her that maybe she should stop, she does. Not purposefully. He goes out to rescue her, and turns out the water pump seized. Now he has a cracked block and no Jeep.

So what he wants to know here is this: Does anyone know of any good place in western Oregon/Washington where you can get a new engine, or is it even worth it? Any opinions would be helpful.

You're certain the block is cracked? I would think the head gasket may have blown but not a cracked block.
If it's a 2.5L I wouldn't bother replacing it with another 2.5. If it's a 4.0 they should be bountiful in the salvage yards and would be worth replacing.

Well it looks like it may be the head. his initial diagnosis was block but it may not be so bad after all. I would that that the head and everything for the pump and lobor wouldn't be too much over $300 or so. That would save him a bit of cash.

Of course, she may have warped the block, too. Depending on how hot it gets, I've seen aluminum blocks warp to the point the block and heads can't be decked enough to seal again, even with new heads, the block could be shot anyway.

Yeah, but there's a lot of meat in straight six. I would think that the engine would seize before it cracked. Maybe he will get lucky and just have to replace the head gasket. At 190K I would replace the engine, but that's just me.
