snowplow on a YJ -bad idea?

I just purchased a 95 yj, all stock. I would like to put a plow on it, but i`ve been told that it will wreck the front end. I have plowed before, and know proper techniques as to keep the vehicle safe from damage. The impression i`m getting about yj`s is that they are just too structurally weak. True?:deadhorse:

I've never heard anybody claim the wrangler frame was weak. And your 95 has a stronger frame than previous years. I don't have any scientific evidence but I know I was rear ended hard in my 93 with no damage. Later on my brakes failed and I went straight into a concrete wall at 15-20mph and the frame was only about 2 inches off. The only real problem I can see with plowing on a wrangler is that they're a fairly light vehicle.

I know tons of people that plow with jeeps and never have any problem other than the normal wear and tear.Having the plow weight will over time make you springs sag, helper spring will fix that problem.Only other problem is the weight issue in heavy wet snow.A few ways to fix that problem.

1.Wheel weights.
2.Chains
3.If it is only a plow vehicle.Loaded tires(filling the inside of the tire with antifreeze)

I think we used to run a 6-1/2 foot lightweight (Meyers) plow on the old CJs. Dad used to have about 30 customers to plow. The CJs were awesome for plowing driveways. The big pickup truck guys would bumble and stumble around with their 8 foot blades trying to do a dirveway and the little CJ would run rings around them. Dad would put a few bags of sand in the rear and four tire chains on the wheels for the big storms. We only got high centered a couple of times and a quick shovel job fixed that. Dad worked the little CJ hard for days after the blizzard of '78 to get his customers done. We sheared a few body mount bolts now and then but that was our only plow related Jeep failure. Our last one had an electro-hydraulic ram which did cause a little trouble with the alternator and battery. The earlier ones all had engine driven hydraulics. Best of luck - John

The only problem you might have is a weight issue. when the snow gets deep, like 12 inches, the jeep just doesn't weight enough to keep foward momentum on the slippery snow and still be able to push the snow.
