Shooter on campus today

From when that bill was defeated earlier this year:
Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus."

Well... that certainly didn't work out the way he planned, eh?

What gets me is that one short clip where you can hear each gunshot and the cops are hiding and ducking behind the outside of the building. Every shot you hear just killed another person and they didn't even try and rush the building or anything, just kept ducking. I don't get it. People run into burning buildings but these cops can't come to the aid.

I'm not even going there. Please, and I'm begging you please, do not start the why comments here.

This makes me proud, as im going into the air forc June 12th for fire fighting. Although my second choice was Police. I mean i dont know how i would act, if i would duck and hide or not. But my father told me to never back down from a threat. Corrupt, im happy your okay and safe. God bless you, thos familys are im my prayers tonight.

Another shooting in the victim disarmament zone. Why are we letting our government stop us from defending ourselves?! As my hero Thomas Jefferson said, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it's natural manure." The erosion of freedom is starting to kill innocent people, we need to do something now. Good luck in boot camp, Lax (the chair force is pretty easy ;))

currupt,
I hope it is ok with you, if not, PM me and I will take it down.
But I want to show my support for the tragedy that just took place and the lives that will be forever impacted. So I changed my sig, temporarily out of respect.

your friend,

The media is already trying to blame police for not taking action sooner. It's disgusting.
Let's not point fingers at the police. I'm sure it was a caotic and confusing situation. Not to mention that the spin is even worse whenever cops enter a situation with guns blazing.
My family's thoughts and prayers will be with those lost and their friends, families and classmates.

I can't even imagined the havoc on that campus. Especially with people running around all over the place. They didn't know who was shooting or how many people were involved, or exactly where the incident was in the building. You can't run in completely blind. Otherwise it could have been even more fatalities. Its easy to arm chair quarter back, but unless you're in the sitaution, don't knock em.
My deepest condolences go to all the families of the victims. And Currupt, if you need anything let me know. Take care brother.

Same goes for me. Let us know if there's anything we can do.

i don't have as much time to check in here anymore, but when i heard the news i thought, "doesn't currupt (the jeeper) go there? i hope he's okay." ~ so i checked in to look for a post. glad to read you weren't physically harmed. hang in there kiddo.
my thoughts go out to everyone associated with the campus.

The crowd started signing:

Amazing Grace
Lean on Me
The National Anthem
The Hokie Chant (multiple times)
and many other songs that I didn't know.

It was amazingly moving to say the least.

Did I miss something? The shooter killed himself, they couldn't even identify him at first when they found him.

i think prairiepunk was talking about before this incident. I don't think he was arrested, but he was forced to be seen by a mental health professional. I know around here its a waste of time. I took a kid who said that he wanted to kill his grandparents. I completed the emergency psychological committal form and the doctor released him within a 2minute conversation. He asked, "do you have access to any guns?" The kid said no, and then the doctor asked, anything else you could hurt people with, and he said no. The doctor then released him to go home to his grandparents again. Who feared for their lives keep in mind. Sorry, but doesn't every house have steak knives, heavy objects, probably some sort of tape, rope, fire etc. Maybe its just me, but i think there is more than a gun used to kill or hurt people. Thats probably what happened with this kid.

I believe he was released and ordered to seek counseling, but those orders generally have no teeth.

Heard an interesting report last night about murderers and people like this guy that go berzerk. I don't recall the exact numbers, but a very high percentage (like 80% or over) of them have had some type of injury to the frontal lobe of their brains, the area which controls impulses. The injuries can be from a variety of causes, including excessive chronic stress, which can cause changes in the blood flow to that area of the brain. The Texas Clock Tower shooter was found later to have a brain tumor in that area. They rattled off a rather long list of well-known murderers from the past 40-50 years that all had some type of injury to the frontal lobe. 90-some percent of death row inmates have had injuries to the frontal lobe. These people can be perfectly normal in every aspect, but cannot control specific urges and impulses when angered or excited, most predominately the urge to commit violent acts.

some local news. In the bordering town of Salem, Nh. there has been threats from wed to today about a shooting on 4/20/07... they found a note on a lunch table where my good friend that attends the high school says "all the normal you know cool kids sit." that said "get ready to die" my friend as admitted to making fun of the weird gothic group of kids who were said to be making threats down the hallways wednesday to random kids "are you ready to die/ watch out for the shooter"

My friend stayed home from school today, and we drove by the school. there was we estimated about half the parking lot cars missing and about 10 cop cars 2 at both entrances and about 6-8 parked randomly. I feel as though the school is not taking the threats as serious as they should, having school for today and tomorrow. The school should be closed. They are on spring break next week, its not like these 2 days matter.

They can't shut down the school everytime there's a punk making threats like that, otherwise they'd make those threats every day and the school would never be open. Sounds to me like they're doing what they should if there are cops at the school.

Several schools around here have had similar incidents where someone has left a note about a threat to kill someone. It's just copycat crap that some punk is doing to try to get a rise out of people. Personally, I think if you're caught making threats like those, you should be charged with a felony and sent to prison for 10 years minimum. Get tough on the punks that are doing it for fun, and maybe they'll stop.
