Shocks bottoming out

So I fix the front end with the high steer, and now the back end goes... Of Course!

The rear shocks are bottoming out on every little bump, the jeep isn't sagging at all when sitting there, but the ride is very annoying now. The shocks I have are RE twin tube front and rear. I guess they couldn't cut it in the rear. It may have something to do with the heavy bumper/tire carrier I built for my jeep, (which I am beginning to regret).

Anyway, they need to be replaced. Any thoughts on shock companies or shock types? Will a Mono Tube shock work better in this situation? Shock with a resivoir?

Thanks

The shock is too long for the application if it's bottoming out. I would buy a shorter shock or relocate the mounting points further apart from each other.

Well I have an SOA with a 1.5" lift spring in back, and the shock was for 5" to 6" of lift. I drove with these shocks on for about a year, and they were fine until now...

If they're truelly bottoming out, then it sounds like your springs are sagging, or they've twisted enough from axlewrap to make the lower shock mount closer to the top.

I used my 4" lift shocks when I did my SOA and just welded on the lower shock mounts at a location that worked well.

These springs are the RE "anti wrap" springs... with the reverse eyes. I havn't experienced any axle wrap since I put them on, and they arn't sagging. I was thinking of mounting the shocks at an angle toward the middle of the jeep, but I would have to modify the exhaust to do so.

The last time I was bottoming out hard I broke the shock mount when doing it but I did have that nasty sound and it was the leaf spring end hitting a bolt on the bumper but it took a while to figure it out I know that sounds weird but it totally f**ked the bolt up on both sides and made a awefull noise in the process that seemed to get worse over a couple of weeks while I was trying to figure it out . Just a thought, maybe it is not actually the shock
