Idk what jeeps have it or not. But my 99' does and boy its never right... Sometimes ill just go into 4 and its already tellin me to go to 5 its just annoying

I could be wrong, but i think that shift light is programed to tell you when to shift for optimum gas mileage.

I've ignored every shift light I've ever had........think I had one on an '88 S-15 pick-up and mudwoman has one on her '94 YJ............dumbest thing I've ever seen. Useless and very annoying.

The shift light comes on at low rpms but you will get your best mileage by shifting at its direction.

....unless you're running larger-than-stock tires and wheels.

Mine comes on around 2000 RPM and goes off around 3000 RPM. Usually, when it goes off, it's time for me to shift.

its true, sometimes im crusing in 3rd and it will be on but once i stomp on the pedal it goes off.. COME ON JEEP

best fix i've found is black tape or pulling the bulb (if accessable) - my jeep doesnt have one but i've had a cpl cars that had it - i always told people it was a "direction of travel" indicator - thats about all its good for..... and yes, annoying....

An ice pick works well, too!:D

I like that idea about taking the bulb out! I think I'll give it a shot!

That light is REALLY anoying, and it is NEVER right (I run 31" instead of 29", so it's worse than in the stock configuration, which is already bad!). By the way, it tells you to shift based ONLY on RPM's, which do not mean anyting. If you hit the gas and hold the RPM's on neutral at 3K, the light will come on.

I've found that in my dad's Rubi it changes when it comes on based on how hard you get on the gas. If you floor it, it comes on later for best acceleration. If you're easy on it, it comes on earlier for better gas mileage. Mine still comes on when I tac up high on the trail, it's funny. I look at it and go yep, thats the way I want to go, but whether we get there or not is up in the air.

Get a nice translucent sticker of your choice, mine happens to be a decent looking blonde with knockers.... place said sticker over the "dummy light" and drive...... everytime my tj tells me to shift, she lights up!!

You all together just forget about shifting then..... no muss, no fuss!

IF YOU NEED A LIGHT TO TELL YOU WHEN TO SHIFT, PULL OVER AS SOON AS YOU CAN, DONATE YOUR JEEP TO SOMEONE WHO CARES AND BUY A BUICK.
