i was wondering can u put dana 44 shafts in a 35 housing?

No.
BUT you can, with minimal machining or conversion parts, put:
D50 TTB guts into a D44
D70 gears and carrier into a D60
Eaton ho72 shafts and gears into a 14 bolt <- direct swap
and an ol'buck that I wheel with says D27 gears will fit into a D30, but I really don't know.
