"Ted Nugent for Michigan governor?
Is Ted Nugent planning to hang up his guitar and get into politics? It looks like that's a good possibility, according to the New York Times. He told the paper that he was "99 percent ready" to run for governor of his home state of Michigan next year, but he's decided to hold off until the 2010 election. He said, "Even though Michigan needs me desperately - the pimps and the *****s and the welfare brats need to be introduced to my crowbar - I think I would be better fortified and my family would be better fortified for the campaign, if I decided to do so, five years from now." Nugent also claimed that he consulted with and had the support of current and former Republican governors including John Engler of Michigan, George Pataki of New York, Mike Huckabee of Arkansas, and Rick Perry of Texas.

Nugent's own brother Jeff, for one, doesn't see Ted winning any contests anytime soon. He said, "I think it would be impossible for him to be elected with the views he's articulated. If he was capable of drawing back in 20 or 30 degrees from where he is, he could still be true to his beliefs but not be so outrageous." Jeff also said that he's given up on asking Ted to tone things down a bit: "I gave up doing that a long time ago. That is who he is and you can't change the stripes on a tiger."

Ted Nugent recently shot a new reality show called Wanted: Ted Or Alive that will air on the Outdoor Life Network early next year.

He was the spokesman for the nra for a while. What a poor choice I thought.

Couldn't be any worse than a washed up WWF (World Wrestling Fakes) bum or an illiterate body builder turned, ahem, "actor".

I think everyone know's my political views, so I'll refrain from commenting there.

But as a person, I've always thought of Ted as a guy that needs atleast 3 good arse kickings....

...and just about anyone could do it.

Hmm... This is something that I have been mulling over for a while now, as I do try to stay active and well informed in the politics of my state...

And keep in mind that you're reading the writings of an actually very reserved, conservative, and angry person, so this may come as a shocker, but I don't think that this would be a bad thing...

Ted's radical, indeed... Very extreme, very standoffish, very in your face, but at the same time, he backs the interests and concepts that this state truly needs to have taken advantage of if we're ever gonna get back on track...

You'd have to visit Michigan, and truly visit it to truly know it... Obviously, the 1600s are long gone, therefore, there's really not much fur-trading 'round here... And the 17 and 1800s are gone, leaving us with not too much copper, salt, and ore mining... As for the 1900s, well... Let's just say that Motor City is anything but these days, and that includes Saginaw and Flint... The economy in this state is horrible right now, sales and wages are down everywhere... It's a dark day considering that a LOT of what supported our economy has been either shipped overseas, or just is no longer needed. Be all this as it is, there are still a few things that Michigan has, and hopefully always will have that makes this state what it is...

Trout fishing, hunting, camping, 4-wheeling, off-roading, I could name a million things and not come close to describing it... If you take every dissertation that I have ever made regarding camping at my property, or wheeling at the Mounds, or going up to Tahquamenon Falls when there was still 3 feet of snow on the ground... Wine tasting in the Leelanau Peninsula, on the hillsides surrounding Grand Traverse Bay... Canoeing down the AuSable River one golden autumn afternoon... Getting fresh cider and donuts at the Cider Mill in Rochester Hills, and chilling out by the Clinton River trying to keep the bees away... Picture 1:00 in the morning, on a midsummers night, the stars and the moon high in the sky... You are in a field in the middle of the woods, where a village used to exist many many many years ago, or so the story goes... The scent of sweetgrass blows through on the wind, the Jeeps sitting there dripping their mud, the creatures that got you there... Where the heck are ya? Somewhere in the woods... It's finally cooled down enough to be bearable, but the wind is warm, and you just stand there and spin, taking it all in, with every breath, becoming one with the outdoors... Subtract your anger and stress, and multiply that by a million, and you might have an idea of what makes Michigan the place that it is...

For all his faults, and nobody's saying that there's not faults, Ted Nugent knows, cares about, and supports these things... Actively involved in trail conservation (VERY important to our sport), hunting regulations and maintanance (and while I don't hunt much myself, the need for herd control and such badly exists in this state, since our forefathers sort of messed up the ecology by wiping out the natural predators), there are a lot of things, this man eats, sleeps, and breathes Michigan... And in my opinion, this is a good thing, since our current governor does not... Taking in trash from Canada and other states, and putting it in the landfills in Auburn Hills is not helping Michigan. Putting a "closed for season" sign on every scenic outlook, waterfall, state park, forest entry, and DNR office up north is not helping Michigan... Under the current administration of this state, it seems like there's only time to be concerned about Detroit, Lansing, Grand Rapids, and the surrounding areas of these respective cities. Northern Michigan may as well not exist, let alone the UP... And while supporting the outdoors and core of Michigan isn't gonna magically make the economic recession that we're in go away, it's not like these are not worthwhile things...

Heck, a small game license costs ya 14 bucks... My dad just paid that, and actually bagged a grouse (2nd thing he's ever shot in his life)... Every hunter out this season has put that money into the State of Michigan... 4X4ing... We are in a major crunch up here with trails and land being neglected and closed, in favour of mini-malls, and subdivisions... Everything offroad must have a State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources ORV sticker... That comes at 16.25 for a year sticker... Every Jeep, truck, quad, snowmobile, dirtbike... That adds up, and in my opinion is a major resource to the state that should not be pushed down as it has in recent years...

No politician, or anybody in any office can magically make problems go away, make everything right, or please everybody, but in my opinion, he'd be good for my state...

Just my thoughts though... After all, never judge a book by it's cover if it's gonna balance out the bookshelf :)

:)

Well said Saurian. Not everyone knows how active Ted really is in the political scene. He was a great spokesman for the NRA because he believed in what that organization was going for U.S.

He has spoken at many Blue Ribbon coalition meetings trying to keep the trails open.

He has spoken at many hunting and fishing expos around this country and his only real message is get active in your local government and fight to keep your hunting and fishing rights.

Grant you his views are a little radical for me but at least he is taking a stand.
unfortunately I don't live in Michigan so I don't ever know if I would vote for him.
We have had Wrestlers as governors and ask any one in Vermont how well Jesse Ventura did.
We have had actors as Presidents...ask any American how well this country did under Ronald Regan.
And yes we have had a few flops...
So don't judge a man by what he did in the past...judge him by what his political agenda is.

all I have to say about the Nuge is he took that dying boy hunting on his own time out of the goodness of his heart after the make-a-wish foundation refused the kids request because their anti-hunting agenda.

Go Nuge!

Yup. The kid wanted to go bear hunting with his Dad.. Ted was active in make-a-wish but he was "ousted" after following through with that kid's wish. He thumbed his nose at those who told the kid to "make a different wish". For that, I respect him.
