Rubicon ?

What year did rubicon first come out? Do they all have the 4-1 transfer case? Other than front and rear lockers and the xtra low x-case, what else does the rubicon have that a regular wrangler doesnt?

The sticker that says rubicon? I have no idea

The Rubicon came out in 03. Yes all Rubicons come with 4:1 TC. and also
4:10 gears
Dana 44 axles F/R though the front outer shafts are from a dana 30 along with the knuckles
30 spline count on the inner shafts, 27 on the outer ones
disc breaks
This is for the 03- 06

It came standard with 16 inch wheels, diamond plate rocker panels. This was also the first year DC put in the 42LE four speed transmission in a wrangler. The five speed manual was either NV3550 or the NSG370 in later models.
The first Rubi's had air activated lockers but they changed them to a form of E-lockers, since the 5psi lockers couldn't stay locked under extreme use(ARB's need 90psi). Also placing two air pumps slightly below the transmission wasn't one of there brightest idea's either lol.

I thought they were all electric lockers, learned something new. So the air lockers will dissengage on there own sometimes?

Oh I see. Ive never heard of anyone offroading the rubicons other than reading an article on them when they first came out. Has anyone with the older rubi's had problems with the lockers dissengaging? I had a '98 wrangler and liked it, always wanted a rubicon. Now a buddy is looking at some jeeps and asking my advice, and now I getting that bug again!

If you do get a older TJ Rubi get the LJ. The extra room is great. When I had mine ( 06 LJ ) I never had a problem with the lockers. One of the problems were the air line that ties into the locker some times come off. Alot of people just use zip-ties .
The air pumps for the lockers not in a good place to start with. People move them on the tray under the brake booster. You can also jump out the locker to work in 4h, 2h.
If you keep the tires under 35" they will last longer, but it all depends how you drive. Just be easy on the skinny.

Good recommendation on the Rubicon Unlimited. Another advantage is the extra wheelbase increases stability during light towing and offroad driving. The TJ Unlimited is getting more rare and they're fetching a premium.

Well my buddy got a rubi, an 03 model. Its got a 2" coil spring spacer lift and about an inch or so body lift with 33's. One other thing I learned is that there is only one switch for the lockers, and it only works in low range. Sure is a nice ride. Right now Ive got the rear end out of my old sleeper cj and am quite upset about it! Gonna have to do my best not to get me one!

No date on the article, guessing it's old? Anyone do this bypass? If so how's it working? Any scary moments, issues?

Still curious: Anyone do this bypass? If so how's it working? Any scary moments, issues?

Also the Jeep manual says to operate the stock oem locker switch: "push once to lock the rear dif, push a 2nd time to lock the front dif". So, if the bypass switch is on, will the oem switch work to select front & rear still independently, or are both dif's @ full lock only?

I've done the locker by pass, best two dollars I've spent and had no issues. The factory switch still works the same.

Here's a good write up.
