Rough Ride

Happy Birthday!!!!!!

I put a 4 inch pro comp suspension lift on my jeep and now it rides really rough. the slightest bump is like im jumping a 3 foot speed bump. What can i do to make the ride softer?

I had the same problem with a 3" suspension lift on my 95 YJ - though after a 100 or 200 miles it seemed to have "softened" up a bit. My jeep definitely rode better with stock springs though the lift is great and I can do so much more with her. I think the more arched the spring the bumpier the ride will be. A 4"spring lift has a lot of arch so I think its to be expected.

Give it a while, it has to break in. Take it off road and flex the suspension a little, this should speed up the break in process. Take off your sway bar in the front and give it a good flex. Took me a month or two before my suspension was fully broken in. As for Pro Comp, there's nothing wrong with it. In fact some of their shocks are basically the same as Rancho. Rancho does most of the testing and comes up with a lot of the new products, then companies like Pro Comp copy it and sometimes improve on it.

ProComp leaf springs are really stiff, they don't flex much even after breaking in. The harsh ride can be improved by getting rid of the harsh ProComp ES3000 shocks and getting some smooth hydraulic ones. Try Doetsch-Tech 3000's.

i have a 4in pro comp. lift and it is rough. i never even put
the sway bar links on, after a couple months it sofened
up a little bit but i still had no flex. after about a year, when
i realized that the wear pads between the leafs were not even
worn and had rust building on them, i decided to take out a
leaf, and what a difference that made, it flexes way better
now, and a softer ride. the shocks are pretty stiff though, every
couple months i have to replace the bottom bushings, it wears
them right out.

whats up with having a stiff ride i love it. i got a TJ and it rode so smooth wiht stock suspension in it and now with the lift it rides rough and its cool hehehehe juss my opinion

Put heavy winches on both the front and back, That might soften it a little!

Is it riding really bouncy, or is the Jeep slamming on every bump? If it is bouncy, stiffer shocks will help, but I would wait because some settling will help this. If it's just simply wrenching your jeep every time you hit a bump, your springs aren't moving/flexing enough and softer shocks could help (as Bounty said), also, how much air do you have in those 33's? Taking them down to 32psi could help a little if you have them pumped up too high.

My stock springs were just about frozen stiff. It felt like the only shock absorbtion came from my tires, and when I put my lift on, I thought I had died and gone to heaven!

i like the rough ride also, now that i also got flex.
but if you cant 4-wheel with out getting stuck every
5 feet because your suspension wont flex and then
you hit the pavement and your head is bouncing off
the roof, it almost takes the fun out of it.(almost)hehe

twisted, mine is pretty choppy, the front barely moves with 2 guys
jumping on it, just the tires flex, and the back is soft.

Mabye there is a difference in the height of the lift. A friend of mine has a 2 1/2" (mabye 3", I can't remember) pro comp lift and there isn't too much of a difference in ride between his and mine. I've had the Rancho shocks on here and the pro comp and haven't noticed much of a difference between the two. Next set I buy is going to be the adjustable Rancho's. I think the weight of your tires has a lot to do with how your shocks will perform as well.

hi craig, my friend in edmonton has a 3.5in suspension
lift and it is way softer than mine. it must be the arch in
the springs. when i grease the springs and bushings it
works way smoother, but after a couple days it stiffens
up again. i would definetly go a different route next time.
maybe a 3.5 and .5 shackle or something.

I don't know about the Pro Comp springs but my Old Man Emu springs came with teflon pads between the springs. Mabye you might want to try making some and putting them between your springs, this might help.

ya i think i will try that, but i still think next lift i buy, i will try a
different make. just for fun.
