roll bar swap

I am currently swapping out my stock 86 roll bar in my cj with a 95 wrangler roll bar. I wanted to have the rear shoulder belts and extra safety for the family. The roll bar I purchased came with the "tie-ins" from the windshield to the front hoop. Since the windshield frame is an 86 there are no torx fittings interagated into the frame like in a 92-95 yj. Does anybody know the best way to use the tie-ins or should I just leave them off and not drill the windshield frame?[addsig]

what about getting a windshield frame from a newer jeep too...? i'd be kinda skeptical drilling the hell out of your current frame unless you wanna weld some extra support onto it first.[addsig]

Measure a YJ and see if the YJ windshield frame is an option.

You can always weld the spreader bars to the windshield frame.[addsig]

I'm being told by the local shop that swaping windshield frames is not an option. The guy says it won't fit. Still thinking.........[addsig]

I would go ahead and add a front loop and make it into a full cage. Just have a metal shop bend you an section to go to the floor and up around the inside of the windshield frame and across and weld it up. Would really give you some serious support for the family in the front as well. Just and idea. Tug[addsig]

I agree ith tug, instead of attatching it to the windshield frame, you can purchase a kit hat ties the bar into the floor, far better in the safty department. If you wanted to swap windshields, you could, but you will loose your defrost duct. YJ's had them in the dash while CJ's have them in the frame.
See if you can find a metal shop in your area, and have them fab something up, go a bit more custom!![addsig]

would this new fabricaiton use the seperater bars or would it be new work from the front hoop down to the front floor?[addsig]

New work from the hoop to the front floor with a cross piece at the front.

Good suggestion. Get the bars that go from the main hoop where the spreaders bolt on, above the door opening to the windshield and then down to the floor. Get a crossbar for above the windshield, above the dash, and above the rear seatbelts where the rear bars bend.[addsig]

I drew up a quick sketch of my idea. The items in red are new, and the items in yellow are optional, but would be good additions if funds allow Hope this helps

a garage will say many things can't be done... but if you have raw metal, a welder, some cutting tools, determination, and a creative mind... its all possible[addsig]

That drawing was just a quick thing I did without any of my drawing tools. I already do a little bit of drafting as my job requires it, but I get so into it that I tune everything out, and thats not a very good thing when I have important calls coming all time.

thanks for all the help. I'll see what I can come up with with a shop since I don't have access to a welder. I'm going to try to incorporate the spreader bars that are factory since they bolt to the main hoop and maybe cut the ends off and weld new metal from there to the floor.

Thanks, it looks like that those part numbers are for yj application only. I think that I am going to have to fbricate something if I'm going to use the front bars.
