I usually end up having to do mine after every winter. If you get an aluminum polishing compound, read the label first. Some brands will dry very fast and it's a real pain to get off if it drys.

What brand do you use?

My position of getting stuck wasn't during a wheeling trip... just stupidity and laziness. Do yourself a favor and ALWAYS check your tires befored you leave.... cause I sure didn't this time. Up here, the temperature has started to warm up a bit, just to the point where ice and snow on driveways melts... Well, the temperature decided to decrease just a couple days ago to -10 C.... well. Let's just say I took off, but my tires didn't... (more like came off...lol) Come to find out, my tires were 4 inches in ice, guess that can do it. Now I gotta go buy new tires... Well, lesson learned I guess.

Can it keep that from happening? LOL
Up here most people just change there rims with the winter tire already on them. Personally, if I see a bit of corrosion stating, I sand it off, and patch it up with some rust paint... works fine for me. 8)

I've tried a bunch of different brands over the years. If I remember correctly the McGuires worked pretty good. I usually just get a small wool wheel and put it on my cordless drill. The big buffing wheels used for polishing cars is too big and aukward (however you spell it). I'm gonna try and pick up a small air grinder this year that'll accept my wool wheel. That'll speed things up. I've heard of so many people buying aluminum polishing compound for their aluminum wheels and can't figure out why it doesn't work but what they don't realize is that it's only good for non-painted aluminum wheels. They're trying to use the polishing compound on the paint.
