Retirement

Well, effective April 1st, I am retired as a police officer. My last day they threw a surprise party, which I knew they were doing because they were all asking if I was coming back after lunch. Geez, don't make it too obvious. It was nice. As I was leaving I got on the radio and said, "174 (my id number) to all units, be advised I am over the wall, 10-42 (out of service)" and everyone said their good byes. The dispatcher and secretaries were crying. I am so sad to leave, but on the other hand staying would jeopardize my life as well as anyone I work with. I am in the process of going through interviews with Progressive Insurance as a claims adjuster. Its a decent pay and is still has some investigatition involved. I am starting a new chapter in my life, but I guess law enforcement wasn't in my cards. The only bad thing I can't look around is that I am going to be a newbie wherever I go so I lose priority on leave time and such. Thanks for being here for me during this last heck of a year. Its great friends like you that made times more bearable.

Changing careers is always tough but I'm sure even more so in your situation. I don't want to sound to clichey but life is what you make of it and just find something you enjoy. It might not even be your next job but just keep at it. We got your back. ;)

Congrats, in a way. I'm sure it'll work out for the best. THere is a lot more money to be had in the private sector, I used to do some surveillance work for insurance companies on work comp claims, lots of $$ in that. My wife is a claims adjuster (work comp) if you need advice or anything.

Do you still get to carry since you're retired?

yeah, i get to buy my gun back, Glock 21, .45 ACP, for a whopping $1 plus $10 registration fee to the state police, due to MD gun laws. Overall $11 for a great gun. We can conceal carry in this state and in most of the other states in the U.S. Thats one thing we can thank our govt for is allowing us that right for the years of sevrice we put in and sacrifices we made.

Cool. It should be legal in every state thanks to recent federal legislation allowing concealed carry by active and retired LE.

I'm sure your experience will pay off in whatever you pursue.

That is true, as a law enforcement officer and yeah, even you retired old nags  can carry concealed in all 50 ;)

How are you feeling? Good to hear you're getting back on that horse and have an interview.
