Haynes sucks, and Chilton's isn't much better for those of us who aren't very mechanically inclined. As a previous poster stated, when they say, "Remove XYZ part..", that doesn't help me, as I'm not well versed in how to remove a lot of parts of an engine. My Haynes that I wasted money on often says remove and rebuild part and replace. WTF?!? If I knew how to do that, I wouldn't be using their dang manual!

I think more people look to the internet these days than to any repair manuals. Especially for your fan swap. You're not likely to find any info in a book on that one, whereas there are propbably at least 50 threads on this board alone.
The same can be said for the Motorcraft carb swap and SOA lifts.

Sorry, i meant for all little things that need fixing too. Forgot to put in the post. I want to fix as much as possible befroe breaking it down and taking it to a shop.

i skipped through the first page so forgive me ... but haynes has always been my manual for most everything i've got into ... and for other vehicles its had the specific info on R&P's but for a TJ NOPE NADA didnt even give the torque specs for the carrier caps.... so i was dissipointed on that level ... but i went to dana on all the specs that my haynes didnt have ... just my nickles worth guys ... chilton always seemed vague

Don't forget to try Amazon......you can get used things cheap every now and then.......worth a shot.

Well i got my '96 XJ service manual off Ebay for $53 with shipping. Not too bad and its in awsome shape. Wow, after looking at the Chiltons and Haynes in Barnes and Nobles, i totally am glad i got the FSM. It details every step in the process. I will be set for sure.
