is it better to remove the engine and transmission or just the engine when replacing the engine?

Remove the engine, leave the transmission.

well if yuo were going to remove the engine and transmission then you would have to drop the transfer. or pull all three at once.

If you need to service anything with the transmission I would pull that also to do the seals and stuff but you would need to remove the header panel also.
