Regearing

RE: Re: RE: found at 3am: Couch on fire in middle of street

Im thinking about regearing my jeep soon. Im wondering if anyone has ever done it before and how much it is now. Im also wondering if the process of doing it myself would be too hard to tackle. I am moderately comfortable with working on the axles but when it comes down to the gears i dont know squat. Would this be something i could tackle on my own or should i have a professional do it?

I also and supposed to be aquiring a hard top for my 93' YJ soon and I have no steel doors or hard uppers that will fit. I need the soft or hard uppers with the rounded edge in the top corner. Will a supertop upper window suffice? Thanks for any help.

RE: this may sound stupid...

I would say have the gearing done by someone that knows what they are doing. If you don't shim it right, you could cause some headaches for yourself.

Learning how to set them up properly is half the battle... having the right tools is another.

Unless it's something you want to get into doing to try to make a buck every now and then or to help out your buddys then just fork it out and have it done.
