reciever adjustment due to wreck

I have a two inch receiver that is at a 45 degree angle at the moment thanks to a little ricer that decided to wedge itself under my rearend. I know if I were to try to bend it back to horizontal it would weaken the welds, so should I cut it off and re-weld it or is there something else i could do?

If you are confident with your welding, yep.. if not, unbolt the whole thing & replace it... it's not worth the aggravation especially if you tow with it. if its just a recovery point, leave it alone, it'll still work.

I would leave it alone but it drags when im in deep ruts so I wanna get it up and outa the way. I don't tow anything so I might just cut the sucker off.

nah don't just lop it off, it prolly saved your gas tank and/or bumper a little from that ricer... i'd try and keep it on there!

D35 spyder gears

Where exactly is it bent at? It's very common for a bumper to bend the frame's rear crossmember some as it bends up or down.

I think your best bet is to bend the receiver back up, then support everything with gussets and more metal. Back up the frame crossmember with some heavier metal as well.

Try jacking up the receiver, or even lifting with a winch if possible.

All I can say is, if you can straighten it that easy, I would be seriously worried... that reciever is meant to handle much more weight than your little jeep (with all 4 off the ground)... it should take at least 8,000lbs to even flex the system, let alone bend it... I have jacked the entire rear of my jeep 2 feet off the ground by the reciever without so much as it flexing... hall, my truck had a front reciever, i lifted the front end (which is where most of the weight is anyway) off the ground without flexing it... I would think it would take some serious leverage to bend it back.

Sounds like it bent easily, so I was assuming that it may be a bumper mounted 2" receiver and not the stout frame mounted receiver. I've seen many a bumper bend under like described, never seen it happen to a Class II or III receiver.

Go through your insurance and make the guy that rearended you pay for a new bumper with a built in receiver. 9 times out of 10, the insurance companies will find the person that did the rearending responsible.

You can always hook a chain your reciever and wrap the other end around a lamp post (or something else that is solidly mounted) and then just give it a little tug. Just be carefull doing it. That is how I straighten out my bumper on my truck when it gets bent up!!!
