Noticed today the seal on the rear of my transfer case is leaking. Anyone know how hard that is to change? Looks like you just drop the driveshaft and unbolt the cone off the back of the TC. [addsig]

  • Drain the transfer case
  • Remove the rear driveshaft
  • Pry out the old seal
  • Take it to the auto parts store, there is a number on the seal
  • Clean the transfer case seal surface
  • Add some silicone to the metal flange on the seal
  • Install the seal, may take putting it in the freezer to shrink it slightly

No need to remove the tail cone, but if it makes it easier..... :-D [addsig]

its a really easy procedure... also... if you jack only the rear up high enough.. you dont have to drain the Tcase... you should not lose fluid that way... but if you intend on putting new stuff in there... its cheap to do... and its not a bad idea[addsig]
