Rear seal (main)

Hey guys, is the top part of the rear seal always rubber? Mine may be very old but it sure feels like metal, and it blunted the end of a brass drift, so I'm wondering if they are always rubber. My replacement is.

Ya, metal wouldn't create a proper seal. It might have a metal piece around the outside of it...but it should be rubber.

You're right. It was.

I couldn't tap mine out with a punch until I loosened the rest of the main caps on the crank. Then she came right out. I was following a write-up on the web that said you could get by without doing that, but it didn't work out that way for me, and at least now I know that all the caps are properly torqued.
