I just had my rear main seal replaced and it still leaks when i am driving . I have been told my options are to deal with iot , buy a new carnk set with seals ,buy a long or short block and replace the wole thing. The jeep has 107000 mile on it. It is a 1996 xj any reccomendations would be appreciated, or if anyone has had this problemand what there solution was.

Thanks.

If the rear main was done and it still leaks I'd say the installer probably effed it up, as happened to me on another vehicle. If the seal is pinched or not lubricated or just plain put in cockeyed it will leak. If your engine is running fine w/107k I'd let it ride, the simplest answer is often the right solution. I dont think you need an engine b/c you have a small oil leak.

If you think the seal was done right and still leaks, you might want to check you PCV system and make sure the motor is breathing well.
One sure sign it is not alright is a black oily spot on the airfilter near the air tube. Bad or weak crankcase ventilation will cause oil to be pushed passed some seals that would not normally leak.
A second thing to try is that the chemical additive in STP stop leak (NOT stop smoke) and also in the "High-mileage" oils now available has a seal swell ability that can swell up certian seals and stop minor leaks, it worked on my 4.0 with 155K with the rear main seal leaking.
With that said, if the seal was installed incorrectly, the seat scarred or improperly seated, you really have no options other than live with it(get your money back for the labor) or redo it again.

good luck!!

unusual but not bad vibes

I second the possibility of it being the CCV (Closed Crankcase Ventilation) system is clogged, forcing crankcase pressure past the seals since it's not properly being burnt in the intake.

Find the large hose connecting the airbox with the valve cover. Pull the hose off the airbox and check for suction in the hose, pulling air into the valve cover. Let us know what you find.
