I have a 1989 YJ islander 4.2L. I have a 2.5" pro comp suspension lift with 33" tires. I am planning on putting on a shackle lift just to get a little more clearance. My jeep seems to be very slow and in high gears will not get and speed. I want to change out the rear end to get my power back. Any suggestions on what rear end to use would be greatly appriciated. Any other suggestions on ways to get more power are welcome too.

thanks,

I thik you mean cxhange the gearing, not the rear end. This would also require changing both the front and the rear gears. From all the posts i see on here, 4.56:1 would be the gear of choice for a 4.2 w/ 33inchers (assuming it is a 5 speed) I think 4.11:! were recomended for auto trannies, but I am unsure about that.

If you ever do want to upgrade your rear end for decent money, and can weld/know a welder, a ford 8.8 out of a 95+ explorer will be a bit stronger, and gives you rear disc's
