Rattle in transfer case

I've got a rattle in what it seems to be the transfer case of my 97 tj when going over bumps in both 2wd and 4wd. Should I check it out or is it nothing?

I had some noise from my 231, nothing seemed to cause any problems. I took it apart to install an SYE and found the little mechanical oil pump hose popped out. Once I put it all back and hooked back up the hose my problem was solved. There isn't too much to the transfer case if you decide to take it apart. Plenty of info out there to walk you through it.

Not much in there to rattle, slack in the chain rattling against the case is about it. If you've got that much slack it will generally pop in 4wd when the chain skips on the sprockets.

Yeah it seems to sound like a cable or something hitting the floor on bumps and such, it's all new too me as I'm a new jeep owner. It also could be the e-brake cable as it snapped the other day. Thanks for the help!

lol yes i am willing to bet it is your e-brake cable! lol esp since it snapped, i was thinking e-brake while reading and then saw you said it snapped, so that makes me REALLY sure lol, and yeah the 231 is pretty simple, i tore mine apart and rebuilt it a cpl months ago, and put in a SYE kit in it a few yrs ago. there are # pieces to it with the SYE kit and it comes apart easy as pie

OH, and also keep in mind the jeeps are SHORT wheel based, and rear end noise COMMONLY disguises itself as T-case noises!!
