Random Poetry...

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: This may be a first

He was a very caushious man never romped or played
Never smoked nerver drank never kissed a maid
Then one day he up and died and insurance was denied
For if he had never lived how could he have died!

Okay, I hope you all are cultured enough to understand the intellect behind this poem, because this his heavy stuff:

All right stop! Collaborate and listen
Ice is back with my brand new invention
Something, grabs a hold of me tightly
Flow like a harpoon daily and nightly
Will it ever stop! Yo, I don't know
Turn off the lights and I'll glow
To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle..

dun dun dun da-da dun-dun
dun dun dun da-da dun-dun
Ice-Ice Baby!

---Robert VanWinkle, aka: Vanilla Ice

Mingez....normally, quoting Vanilla Ice is a sure trip down ridicule road. But instead, I have to say thanks. I know it's weird to get all sentimental over a white boy rap song, but I appreciated that. That song came out when I was in about 10th grade. I haven't even thought about it in years, but reading that made me remember like a million good memories. Thanks.

Anytime Junk! I knew someone would appreciate the tongue-in-cheek quoting of the "Genius" that is Vanilla Ice.

Roadside poetry from the 1950s.

Always appreciated by any kid on a long road trip with Mom and Dad in the DeSoto.

RE: 4.2L?

I've been looking for this one, remembered writing it, it was one of those sublime things that just flew off the fingertips... This was after one of the very first times that I went really hardcore wheeling, if I recall correctly... Not a poem per-se, but it says a lot, I think...

It is the thrill of the trail, it's the despair of the stuck. It is the anger you feel, when you messed up your truck. It is the feeling you get when you think you are done, and the feeling you get when you find all is won. It is the risk where you put your own Jeep on the line, and the cheering you hear when you see all is fine... When a total stranger helps you, even putting their own Jeep, equipment, and time at risk, when you help another and you don't know why, when you think there's no way, but you try just the same... When you work with people you have never met to help a total stranger, running the very real risk of damaging or destroying something you spent a ton of money on, and probably cannot afford to fix for a while, and when for whatever insane reason, you just explode into cheers when it all pays off, and you get them unstuck!!! Strangers helping strangers with the things they bought that might get broke, and not thinking twice about it, that's just the tiniest part of what it is all about. When you are one with your Jeep, when you know where it can go, when you do some crazy shit with total confidence because you know that you can do it... There's an indescribable euphoria you get when you have mastered a hill, and a hopeless despair when a mudbog bests you. There's an energy in the air when recovery options are underway, and there is no sweeter thrill of victory, for both the stuck and recovery team when at long last, your Jeep, your beautiful Willy's Overland Kaiser American Motors Chrysler Mercedes Jeep unearths itself from the mud to ride again another day! When you take the wrench to something you destroyed on the trail, when you spend hours and hours, and a small fortune reparing something that's not worth the time, and should by all reason never run again, to turn the key and bring life from death, hope from hopelessness, and victory from defeat, and everyone stands by and looks at you like you are totally insane for putting all of your time and essence into "just a vehicle", when they cannot understand that you and your Jeep have a symbiotic bond, and when you are both happy, you are in perfect harmony, because Jeep can take where you want to go when it is running well... When you perform hours of maintanance that could so easily be done for you for a nominal fee because it is YOUR JEEP, and nobody in heaven and earth and all points between can possibly comprehend it...

It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand...

Jeepz.com, is the ultimate site
For those brave souls possessing 4X4 might.
The numbers are many, the opinions often vary
Whether you voted for Bush or voted for Kerry

If you have a Wrangler…. that’s down on one spring
Or a Cherokee with trail lights, that rides like a king
Your welcome here: just obey the rules
Set down by the mods, who watch over us fools.

Now on Twisted, on Mingez, on Joopin and Mud
On Gadget, on Bounty, on and our ole buddy Tug
Too many to name now, so don’t get depressed
Just start a new thread and make it your best

We talk about Jeeps and oh yeah,
Other things too
Like politics, and kids and
What you put in your stew.

Were sorta like a family,
But we don’t get together and play
Though the Muds did meet Saurian
At O'Charley's in Michigan last May

It’s a darned good little site
You got yourself here Terry
Thank you for Jeeps

"Houses Of The Holy"

Let me take you to the movies. Can I take you to the show
Let me be yours ever truly. Can I make your garden grow

From the houses of the holy, we can watch the white doves go
From the door comes Satan's daughter, and it only goes to show. You know.

There's an angel on my shoulder, In my hand a sword of gold
Let me wander in your garden. And the seeds of love I'll sow. You know.

So the world is spinning faster. Are you dizzy when you're stoned
Let the music be your master. Will you heed the master's call
Oh... Satan and man.

Said there ain't no use in crying. Cause it will only, only drive you mad
Does it hurt to hear them lying? Was this the only world you had? Oh-oh

So let me take you, take you to the movie. Can I take you, baby, to the show.
Why don't you let me be yours ever truly. Can I make your garden grow
You know.

I took off for a weekend last month
Just to try and recall the whole year.
All of the faces and all of the places,
wonderin' where they all disappeared.
I didn't ponder the question too long;
I was hungry and went out for a bite.
Ran into a chum with a bottle of rum,
and we wound up drinkin' all night.

It's those changes in latitudes,
changes in attitudes nothing remains quite the same.
With all of our running and all of our cunning,
If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane.

These changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes,
Nothing remains quite the same.
Through all of the islands and all of the highlands,
If we couldn't laugh we would all go insane

Reading departure signs in some big airport
Reminds me of the places I've been.
Visions of good times that brought so much pleasure
Makes me want to go back again.
If it suddenly ended tomorrow,
I could somehow adjust to the fall.
Good times and riches and son of a bitches,
I've seen more than I can recall

"What we've got here is failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach...
So, you get what we had here last week,
which is the way he wants it!
Well, he gets it!
N' I don't like it any more than you men." *

Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they've always done before

Look at the hate we're breeding
Look at the fear we're feeding
Look at the lives we're leading
The way we've always done before

My hands are tied
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of God and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands time can't deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars

D'you wear a black armband
When they shot the man
Who said "Peace could last forever"
And in my first memories
They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can't trust freedom
When it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin'
For their promised land

And
I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war

Look at the shoes your filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before
Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more

My hands are tied
For all I've seen has changed my mind
But still the wars go on as the years go by
With no love of God or human rights
'Cause all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars

"We practice selective annihilation of mayors
And government officials
For example to create a vacuum
Then we fill that vacuum
As popular war advances
Peace is closer" **

I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
And I don't need your civil war
I don't need your civil war
I don't need your civil war
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war
I don't need one more war

I don't need one more war
Whaz so civil 'bout war anyway

now thats some G&R right there for ya. i love that song

She don't like her eggs all runny,
She thinks crossin' her legs is funny,
She looks down her nose at money,
She gets it on like the Easter Bunny,
She's my baby,
I'm her honey,
Never gonna let her go....

He ain't got laid in a month of Sundays,
I caught him once and he was sniffin' my undies,
He ain't real sharp but he gets things done,
He drinks his beer like it's oxygen,
He's my baby,
I'm his honey,
Never gonna let him go......

In spite of ourselves
We'll end up sittin' on a rainbow,
Against all odds
Honey, we're the big door prize.
We're gonna spite
the noses right off of our faces
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.

She thinks all my jokes are corny,
Convict movies make her horny,
She likes ketchup on her scrambled eggs,
Swears like a sailor when she shaves her legs
She takes a lickin',
Keeps on tickin',
Never gonna let her go.

He's got more balls than a big brass monkey,
He's a whacked out weirdo and a lovebug junkie,
Sly as a fox and crazy as a loon,
Payday comes and he's howlin' at the moon,
He's my baby,
I don't mean maybe,
Never gonna let him go........

In spite of ourselves
We'll end up sittin' on a rainbow,
Against all odds
Honey, we're the big door prize.
We're gonna spite
the noses right off of our faces
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.

"In Spite of Ourselves" by John Prine

Our song,
The muds

Nice mud... I like "Illeagle Smile" myself.... I know it's one of the more played John Prine songs, but I like it's message 8)

When I woke up this morning, things were lookin' bad
Seem like total silence was the only friend I had
Bowl of oatmeal tried to stare me down... and won
And it was twelve o'clock before I realized
That I was havin'... no fun

But fortunately I have the key to escape reality
And you may see me tonight with an illegal smile
It don't cost very much, but it lasts a long while
Won't you please tell the man I didn't kill anyone
No I'm just tryin' to have me some fun

Last time I checked my bankroll,
It was gettin' thin
Sometimes it seems like the bottom
Is the only place I've been
I Chased a rainbow down a one-way street... dead end
And all my friends turned out to be insurance salesmen

Well, I sat down in my closet with all my overalls
Tryin' to get away
From all the ears inside my walls
I dreamed the police heard
Everything I thought... what then?
Well I went to court
And the judge's name was Hoffman

Ah but fortunately I have the key to escape reality
And you may see me tonight with an illegal smile
It don't cost very much, but it lasts a long while
Won't you please tell the man I didn't kill anyone
No I'm just tryin' to have me some fun
Well done, hot dog bun, my sister's a nun

Man, that's nice to know, Prarie!!! Always great to know someone else has been touched by JP!!! That album was released in 1971 (I think....I'm old, dates get messed up) and I've been a fan ever since. "Sam Stone" is probably the most poignant Vietnam era song I've ever heard. It's great to know someone so young has tuned into Prine!!! You gotta go to one of his concerts!

G&R Civil War is my fav of thier songs too. Love it to death. Nice Buffett lyrics too Prairie!! Always doing good to see his stuff anywhere.

John Prine, I hear alot about him but I haven't taken time to find his stuff. Will do though. I'm crazy about music anyway. lol

Ever hear of Jerry Jeff Walker? Nother older guy, sang a song called Sangria Wine. Several other beach bums covered it, mainly Jim Morris, if you follow that crowd. I don't even drink wine but the song is so freaking awesome.

"SANGRIA WINE"

Words & Music by Jerry Jeff Walker

By Jerry Jeff Walker

When friends come for Saturday night

It's nice to make up some Sangria wine

It's organic and it comes From the vine

It's also legal and it gets you so high

Yeah I love that Sangria wine

When I'm drinking with old friends of mine

Yeah I love that Sangria wine

When I'm drinking with old friends of mine

CHORUS:

Whoa oh oh Woah oh oh I love Sangria wine

Whoa oh oh Woah oh oh I love Sangria wine

Start with some wine

Get some apples and brandy and sugar just fine

Old friends always show up on time

That's why you add Sparkling Burgandy wine

CHORUS

In Texas on a Saturday night

Everclear is added to the wine sometimes

Some nachos, burritos and tacos

Who knows how it usually goes, it goes

CHORUS

Yeah I love that Sangria wine

Just like I love old friends of mine

They tell the truth when they're mixed with the wine

That's why I blend in the lemons and limes

Always wanted a life like that, full of good laid back times and good friends. Hasn't happened yet but maybe before I leave this earth.
