The right to bear arms. Make owning guns a crime and only criminals will own them. Guns don't kill people....people kill people. So you make MORE laws against owning them instead of stiffer penalties on abusing them. If you ask me it all boils down to punishment - if someone uses a gun for armed robbery or murder they should get "the chair". You start stringing up a few criminals for the crimes they commit and people will think twice about committing violent crimes. The problem is that it's not the "politicaly correct" thing to do and all the bleeding hearts in this country would never allow it to happen. The criminals go free or avoid the death penalty and the only people benefitting from it are the lawyers defending them. Tax money being spent on prosecution and keeping these dirtbags fed, housed, and schooled could surely be spent better elsewhere.
Along the same lines is a middle eastern dictator that constantly thumbed his nose at and defied the greatest nation in the world. Okay, maybe they haven't found any WMD at this time but I, for one, beleive that there was something there or ready to be made there. Saddam committed atrocious crimes against his own people - mass graves, people being disfigured and butchered, whole families rotting in jail because someones Dad spoke out against the tyranny. How long should we, or anybody have let this continue? Sure, we'd all be happy sitting in our own little world, just worrying about ourselves but would THAT be right? I agree that we're into something that NOBODY ever bargained for, but the fact is that it's something that NEEDED to be done, that it's something we couldn't remain ignorant to any longer. I pray, as I'm sure that all of you do, that it will be over soon and our men and women will return home. If you don't punish the criminal then there is no deterrent for others to repeat the crimes.
The attack on the World Trade Centers had been on Osama Bin Laden's agenda since he failed to bring the buildings down with the first attack in 93(?). September 11th 2001 occured just 9 months into W's term. What was done to prevent this attack during the 8 years in between? Alot of fingers have been pointed at George W. Bush for the attack occuring but can the blame really sit on any one person or party? Maybe it's our fault for living the way we do. We can sit here and debate back and forth about any topic we want, do ANYTHING we set our minds out to do, and become ANYTHING we want to become, including a chance to be President of this great country. It makes people plain out jealous and angry that we have these rights and opportunities.
After the attack on Sepember 11th the patriotism in this country went totally through the roof. Everyone came together for a common cause. It seemed like people were a little more polite and caring for awhile. Now it seems that alot of folks have fallen back into the same old slump. People complain about being inconvenienced at the airport or having to provide extra identification for entry into certain buildings. These people have all but forgotten why this is happening. I was in NY at the landfill while they were sifting through car wreckage and building debris. I stood and watched as the dogs and people endlessly combed the field, firemen taking shifts cutting up cars and removing body parts and putting them in buckets to be identified. The sights and smells will forever be burned into my memory. Please remember.
