Radiator help.

I am replacing the radiator in my 98 TJ this weekend. Is there anything special I need to do when I get it out of there or while I'm installing it. Also what is the capacity of a radiator for a 4.0/I6. If you have any suggestions at all please post.

Disconnects

By your aviator I'll assume you have a TJ. I replaced a radiator on my 2.5 about a month ago. The bottom bolt on the passenger side is a little tricky, and if you have a manual leave the AT cooler at the bottem open. I don't know the capacity of the radiator.

you should be able to get away with one gallon of coolant and then it will probably take around one more gallon of water. that's what mine took but it was a 2.5l.

fill it till you get to the top.. ;) (someone had to say it).. depends really on how fully you drain the system.. a few gallons in the radiator...

just took my radiator out tonight ...TJ radiators suck... guy is supposed to reseal it and rod it tomorrow ... $65 .. is that a good price? ..and sameday service included ... My jeep runs at about 210 degrees now ..will it get better and is that bad for the motor?

extreme droop zig zag?????

Pulled and replaced radiator last night. It would not be that bad except for the fact that the damn bolts are a beast to get to. I would have been done in 45 min if my big arms would have been able to get to those bolts. The bottom left bolt killed me. I was running 210 before and now am just below 200. I went to radiatorbarn.com and got the all metal replacement. That was my first ever venture into the mechanics of the jeep other than changing the oil(which a monkey could do). I have to say it was satisfying that I did it myself. As far as the repair cost you asked about it was quoted to me about the same but the all metal ran me about 145 and it was new so I sprang for it and hope it works out well.

My radiator was shot . only about 1/2 was able to be rodded .it was full of rust or something... new one on the way for $185 + tax ... next day delivery ups ... anyway the QUESTION:

I heard that using BIODEGRADABLE ? radiator fluid is better and not as likely to stop up the radiator?
Is this true.....

ive never heard of this, there are two kinds of antifreeze. red and green  the green is the normal kind that has been uses for decades, and the red is a very new type derived from GMs dex-cool antifreeze that is said to last longer. but costs twice as much. DONT mix the two types when filling up. either use red or green. if i was flushing it and adding new i would but back in what origanlly came in it, be it red or green

As far as coolant the red has a longer service life, At least that is what the manufactures say. You can use either but make sure you flush your system before making a change. Do the flush with the heater temp switch set to hot. This will alow the coolant in the heater core to be flushed. As far as doing the job the correct way you should use distilled water. I know some people will argue claiming that they use regular tap water and never had a prob but minerals in tap water WILL collect in the cooling system decreasing the ability to transfer heat. Can also collect on the thermostat causing it to stick. In any case a 50/50 mix should do you fine.
