I just got the TJ and am having problems with the suspension. It has a 4" pro-comp lift, well most of it. Anyways I got it from a guy who never had it off road and it shows . He spent a lot of money on hardware but never quite dialed it in. No dropped pitman, no discos and some really cushy non adjustable edelbrock shocks. It drove like a marshmellow. I was having second thoughts about buying a TJ instead of building up a CJ like Sully's. So fast forward to tonite, bought an RS5000 steering stableizer to replace this weak or blown one that was on it, big difference.
Bought a dropped pitman arm and of course no big socket 1 5/16", so off to pep boys, no luck, off to sears, they only have it in 3/4" drive, Ok give me one with a slide bar, and they have these cool gear pullers with a cage, give me one of those too. I read that this is the hardest thing to get off your jeep. With this stuff it was easy, hook op the puller, couple of taps(well good smacks) with the hammer and it fell of. Be careful not to hit the threaded shaft with the hammer, cause I know it takes 15 minutes of filing to get the nut back on.
So its on and the difference is remarkable, the steering is less jerky and smooth over bumps. Just a better feel, noticable imediately. If you have the arm in hand, do yourself a favor and go thru the trouble to put it on.
The truck is still wallowing and rolling on those shocks. My next step is to get stiffer shocks. Does anyone have experience with Pro-comp MX-6s?
Oh yea and I screwed up the alignment of the steering wheel, but thats tommorow nites job.
