Pulsing lights... what's wrong???

Best of luck, maybe it'll turn out you just got a bad new one... Happened with my "new and working" cell phone...

OK, took the alternator to the experts.... I can even testify; the thing works. So, my last options are the wiring (checked that) or the computer. I have a couple more checks to make, then it's off to the yard to find a brain.... oh joy. Anyone out there think this is an accurate step? Once more, I bow to you all.

I am out of ideas, but then again, never had too many to begin with. I'm good at wiring things, killing batteries, and zapping myself more times than I would care to think about, troubleshooting electrical is not at all my strong spot. Hope it turns out to be something easy...

Hi,

I still don't think this is a computer problem. Unfortionately, without being there to see your wiring setup, it is hard to say what part of your wiring is causing the problem.

Somewhat Ironically, my Wrangler's alternator has decided it will no longer produce voltage above 13.5 volts -- which is NOT enough voltage to charge a 12 volt battery properly. So, right now I'm just putting a charger on the 12 volt battery for a few hours every other night to boost the battery back to a more fully charged state. Once I have time to fix the Alternator on my wrangler, I'll be more familiar with how the newer charging systems are wired, and then might have more ideas about your problems....

P.S. Did you ever get a voltage reading with the Jeep running and with it off? I'd really like to see these voltage readings.

Man, sorry to hear that Nick. Yeah, I'll get those readings for you. I do think you're right about it not being the computer though. I'm gonna take another hunch and look at the distributor and coil. Something keeps screaming at me in my head about that wire rigging from the battery to the coil.

Rookie question, where does the coil receive it's power supply from? Looking at the wiring diagram there's a grey wire running from the ECU to the coil. Then there's a dark green/red trace wire running from the coil to the alternator. Then a green wire running from the alternator to the ECU. I can figure out which one is coming and which one is going. I hate electrical wiring....
