Project Jeep and boating trip on hold for a while...

I was mountain biking today and went through a section of trail that was a bit beyond my skill level...really rocky with lots of drops, and coming out of one turn the front wheel slid out and hit a pretty big rock head-on, sending me over the handle bars with my legs stuck in the frame and the bike crashing down on me. The trail was pretty much nothing but jagged rocks; I tried to catch myself on one, broke my left wrist (I'm a righty, thank god), then caught one on my chest that left a good 8" cut/bruise and (most likely) cracked rib, and then just slid down the hill still stuck in my bike getting even more banged up and cut up. After biking out for two miles I finally was able to get a ride to the hospital to get cleaned up and get Xrays and a cast. To say the least, my Jeep project and upcoming boating trip are going to have to be put on hold for a while...I'm just glad I didn't get hurt worse though--had I landed on that rock with my face instead of my chest, well, I hate to think what would have happened. I'm considering selling my mountain bike though and sticking to Jeeps...somehow I feel safer when surrounded by a metal cage...

Dude!! Sounds like one helluva crash!! Glad your relatively ok. Yeah, hitting that rock face-first woulda sucked for sure! Get well soon!!

Out of the many sports I have participated in my day, the worst crashes I have ever seen have come during mountain biking. Glad to hear your relatively ok.

Glad you're ok. I love to ride my mountain bike also and have had a few spills but none that resulted in any broken bones. If you sell the mountain bike, try a road bike for a smoother ride but just watch out for cars. This year I've only ridden my poor mountain bike a handful of times but I've really been enjoying my new (to me) road bike. I rode 56 miles this past saturday. A new record for me.

Keep pedaling!
