Picken a Lift TMI

OK I am at that point now. I have to do the unthinkable, and just pick a lift. I have read every post on Jeepz.com at least once and many of them over and over. I have everybodys idea of the best, worst and indefferent accounts of the dream lift. I am pretty sure that 31's are as big as I need but like the sound of 33's but if I go there I am going to need so much other stuff that the extra 1 inch of clearnce gained is just not worth the cost or trouble. There fore I see no real need to go over a 2.5" lift but for the 3.5 or 4" sounds so much better and some day down the road I may want 33's. A slip Yoke Elemanator and CV shaft is so much money that it scares me off from the bigger lift yet I do not want to waste money on a small lift. Man this is a peace of work to deside what to do. Rubicon Express 4" $550.00 or 2.5" for $500.00 Black Diamond, BDR, Rough Country, Rustys Off Road, man what a deal to have to deal with. Please some one help me beat this dead horse. Tug :-?

I cast my vote for the go larger option. Yeah...it's a good bit more cash to go larger and do it right...but the results are so nice. Just wait a little longer...save a little more...sweet talk the significant other (not the Jeep), and go a little larger. I just rode in one of my buddies' Jeep...recently outfitted w/ 4" sus., 3" body, and 2" shackle, and 35" BFG A/T's. Now I want a 1" body lift...so it's not that obvious...and 35's. Good luck.[addsig]

Tug, I am in the same boat as you, and I have my lift money saved up. Now I have to wait to get my tire money, and then go make my purchases. I was gonna go 2.5" also, but I've seen jeeps with 2.5" lifts, and it just doesn't seem worth it. there are a few buddies in my Jeep club who have a 4" plus a 1" shackle lift runnin 33's and all they have is the TC drop kit. No SYE or CV shaft. (they are YJ's by the way). And so that's what I'm going with. I just had to say to myself, "C, get the 3.5 inch lift, and 32's and be done with it." Except for the SYE and CV shaft, it's basically the same cost as the 2.5. I'm going with the Hell creek, which is the same kit as rusty's or the Rough Country, just with a different name, and they have complete kits, even pitman arm! These 2 guys in my club both run this kit, and back it up 100%. I've driven one of their jeeps, and it is a sweet ride. You gotta just say, this is what I'm getting, and I'm getting it. It helped me to look at other jeeps with different setups. I went to dirtroad.com and jeepaholics.com to look at jeeps with 2.5 and 31's versus 4" and 33's. That helped me decide based on what they looked like. So good luck. And just PICK ONE!

Just my 2 cents, but I have done a lot of research and the BDS seems to be the way togo for me. 88YJ inline 6 with a soft top. The 3.5 BDS is super complete and does not need a SYE or CV shaft.

I have the same dilema tug. I think I'm prob gonna go with the rough country 3" kit because it is cheaper the tha 1.5" kit($389 for 3", 415 for 1.5") The only thing stopping my is that I'll probably so an SYE instead of the TC drop for clearance. And just a quick question to all of you, would some rear axle degree shims in like 6 or 8 degrees eliminate the need for an SYE or tc drop?

Not really. They do the 2 or 4 degree shims, but 6 and 8 is too steep. The shims coupled with the TC drop should prevent all vibes, but at the cost of lower mid-section clearance, breakover angle, etc..
