P0443 Code

Have a 96 Cherokee Classic. Getting the P0443 code. Have been told it could one of three things; the wiring, the gas cap or the canister purge valve. I also heard that if the purge valve is making a clicking noise, it is working. Mine makes no noise. The fuel miliage has become horrable as well.
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Try placing your hand on the purge solenoid valve to check it. Sometimes the clicking sound is not audible but can be felt when it's actuating. Check the fuel cap seal for minute cracks and the surface of the filler tube where the cap seals. The most common issues encountered on the emmision system is due to a crack on the vacuum line. This however would have a DTC of a small, medium or large evap. leak and a possible general evap failure code.
