Optima batteries bad???

I went to pick up an Optima battery today and just as I was about to pay, some guy came up to me and told me not to buy it because they're pieces of junk. He gave me his business card and told me he's the warehouse manager of some company that sells vehicle batteries and he could get me a better one for half the price. I took his card and was about to leave, then got to thinking. I've heard nothing but good about Optima batteries so they can't be all that bad. I figure he's probably selling them out the back door for a little extra cash in his pocket. I ended up getting the yellow Optima anyway. The only one they sold is the 750 cranking amp one. Is there any Optima's with a higher rating?

You should have at least investigated what he had. I have a Napa exide version of the dry cell and most companies have them these days. Sam's Club even sells dry cells. I have no problem with the Optima's, but I think that other dry cells are just as good.
The ones at Sam's are under $100.

I have a redtop that suits me nicely. Ive always heard good about Optima's. Don't know much about other batteries. Sorry!

There is an old saying "A good idea is public property" meaning any time you come up with some thing good others will copy, improve and make a good thing at least as good if not better over time. So the dry cell will be marketed by all the other guys in the market given enough time. Not like they are a new idea or any thing. Dry cell have been around for years. However the yellow and red tops are a good battery and have a great name. tug

I will never buy anything but optima's (I'm getting one for the wife's civic when her batt goes). I've had nothing but good experiences with them and the warranty makes them well worth the money. Costco has them for $100 now (red top). I have red tops on both my jeeps. The first one I bought lasted 5 years and I got money towards a new one as the warranty is 6 years! I was hard as hell on that battery too. They sold me on their high dollar battery.

I got my yellow top from costco for $217 Canadian. Take 25% off that price and you'll get the price in US dollars.

The only thing bad about an Optima is the price. Like others pointed out, there are cheaper choices available that can do the job.

I only Agree with Joe For Optima's Lack of output power, and Price.

I agree with Joe, Opitimas SUCK. I had a red top in my 73 Nova, died in 2 months, a red top in my moms 80 Triumph TR-8 lasted 9 months. Red top in friends XJ lasted about 2 weeks.
