Oil sender fitting

If you've read I changed my oil guage sender about 5 weeks ago (96 XJ 4.0) and the leak had stopped. Now I have a new leak coming from the base of the fitting that the sender screws into on top of the oil filter adapter. I really didn't apply much pressure taking the sender off and on so don't think I cracked it.
Does this fitting use an o-ring or gasket ? Can I use an adapter fitting in it's place ? I have plenty of wire to do it. Don't know why the factory didn't just screw it in and not use a fitting.
Guess it just takes an engineer to F*** something up and someone that knows what they're doing to fix it.

On the sender? It came with sealant on the sender and I can see that it's not coming from the sender but the base of the fitting.

Check at the local tractor supply store, or your local hardware store. They, are in fact, standard threads and can easily be worked to suite your needs. I might suggest new steel/cast fittings rather than the stock brass ones.

Took the fitting off yesterday and found no cracks ( it's not brass ). Going to put back on and check. I know it's coming from the joint at the fitting and the adapter. Cleaned everything off before to confirm where it's coming from and I know it's not the O-rings. Can't do it tonight cause it's raining so have to wait.
