I'm putting my oil pump back in and it doesn't screw in all the way. therefore it touches the bottom of the oil pan which I know it not good. how do I get it to screw in all the way?

I thought on those AMC V8s the oil pump was in the bottom of the timing chain housing... Can you post a photo? Do you mean the oil pump pickup assy? -John

I can't remember how the AMC V8 pickup goes on... It's been too many years. Some pickups use a flange with two bolts and a gasket. Some are pressed in place and have a bracket with a bolt. Some are "one use only" - they tell you to change the pickup during a rebuild (press fit). Is it possible to post a photo? -John

Is it hitting the baffle in the oil pan?, if I remember correctly, I had to maneuver the oil pan to get the sump tube and screen to be positioned at the correct location. The original oil pan has an oil baffle that keeps an ex amount of oil to keep the oil pump primed while the vehicle is in motion.
