I have an '87 Wrangler with a NV4500 transmission in it. Can some one answer the following questions?

1. It rattles a lot when idling and quiets down when I push in the clutch. Is that normal?

2. While driving and the RPMs get high, there is a very loud, almost deafening, rattle coming from the transmission or clutch or bearing. I don't know which. The clutch grabs really well, like new. Any idea?

3. How do I check the level of the fluid in the NV4500? Also, I want to change the fluid without removing the unit, is this possible?

Thanks!

Sounds like clutch and release bearing are wiped out, re&re transmission replace clutch, release and pilot bearing. Drain and fill plugs are on the side and bottem of trans. The plugs are square in shape and ussually take a 5/8ths wrench to undo. Undo the lowest plug to drain transmission then when trans is empty take out top plug out and fill the trans until oil level is just to the bottem of the hole.[addsig]
