Well, i have had a thump noise coming from the rear brake area. Wasnt all the time. My parking brakes SUCKED. Theres no other way to say it. Every now and then you would be driving along and the rear brakes started to grab and drag REALLY hard. Well thats when i finally got time to check it out. that and it was a strange *62 or so today. Really nice.

So i jacked up the jeep. Pulled off the tire and drum. whats that in my lap??? all the pieces from inside. yea, ALL the adjustment pieces ect... Mind you i have only worked on disc brakes before tonight. Well, now i know about drum brakes. LOL SO...... Now the jeep has all new rear brakes and hardware. Parking brake actually HOLDS. No more noise. Now i just have to get the master cylinder fixed under the hood.

Thought i would share.

Out of curiousity, were your rear shoes cracked up and shattered. I think I might have the same problem.

That sucks, for sure! Being an old fart, I come from the day when we used to have drums all around. But, basically, brakes suck!! I think I've got a bad caliper on the passenger's side and it's 20 degrees outside.........I feel your pain.

had the same thing in my cj7. all the drum parts just fell out when i took the drum off.

To be honest, I couldnt' even tell when the rear drums weren't working.

i had drums in my yj from the factory and i didnt maintain them. i lifted my jeep and put on braided lines AND extensions (dont ask, i thought i needed them) and they rubbed my tires and eventually one of my front lines blew and i was left brakeless. i had to get home by putting duct tape and zipties around my brake line for minimal pressure and scrubbing the curbs, thank god i was less than a mile away. i went to rear discs when i swapped in my 8.8 and taht was great. now im back to drums in the rear with my 60, and theyre not bad cuz everything was nearly new (came out of a military dodge) but i still have plans to put dics back on there
