No more 4th gear

4th gear in my peugault transmission gave out this morning, it was working fine yesterday, whenever i put it in 4th and let the clutch out it starts grinding, it feels like it just wont fully engage. If it is going to be to expensive to fix(which it probably will be) i was thinking about going to a AX-15. will that transmission be compatible with with my np-207 t-case?

Should be compatible if you find an early 21spline AX15, like pre '91.

Be careful. The AX15 was always a 23 spline output. It was first used in late 1989 and 1990 behind the 4.2. The only major change in 1991 was to change the motor to a 4.0. The NP231 came on the Wrangler 6 cylinder in 1988 with a 21 spline input and changed to the 23 spline when they started using the AX15 transmission. Check this site out.

I hope you have better luck than me. I have an ax15 I'm waiting to rebuild. I don't want to even start it until I find an affordable 231. Affordable seems to be the hard thing to find.
