no heat

I have a 97 grand cherokee laredo that I am getting only a little bit of heat from. Engine is running at normal temp. Only one of my heater hoses is getting hot. I can't find any heater control valve.(hoses go right to firewall) I do not have auto climate control. Blower motor works fine.
any suggestions.
thank you,
tom

Your heater control valve is probably next to the heater core under the dash, if you don't see one right by the firewall under the hood.

Also, it could just be that there is an air pocket in the cooling system that has formed in the heater core.

Nick sounds like you could be right on. A couple a weeks ago I had to have the radiator replaced and than my top radiator hose split right after that. If it is an air pocket what is the best way to bleed it out?
thanks allot,
tom

thanks nick

Okay, it most likely is an air pocket. I'm not all that familiar with the cooling systems on Grand Cherokees. You should always run the heater when filling up a cooling system that has been drained for this very reason. I think a method for getting air out is to run the Jeep with the radiator cap opened while parked on an incline (with the front of the Jeep faceing up the incline and the engine/heater running). Also, squeezing the heater hoses may help. I'm sure others will have more creative ideas

Just wondering if you were able to get this worked out. I have just rebuilt my whole heater box from the new core, blazer blower upgrade, on and on. Now I have no heat as well. Think I have the same problem as you. what did you do to fix this problem? tug

I just got done messing with my heater. Still doesn't work!!! Changed thermostat, checked all cables, hooked hoses to an external heater core which did not get hot, and still no heat. Any idea will be welcomed!! 1986 CJ 7 from California.

I suppose you could remove one of the heater core hoses and pour coolant directly into the core, to try to get the coolant circulating.

You can buy a simple Cooling system flush and fill kit for 3 or 4 bucks at Autozone made by Prestone if I am not mistaken and it is a T with a cap that you put inline on your heater in hose. Clamp that baby in there, open the radaitor cap and hook up a water hose and turn it on. The water goes through out the system starting at the heater core and pushes out coolant and water through the radaitor cap opening. Works like a champ plus you will always have it there if you need to do it again. tug
