I am new to all the Jeep stuff, had my 95 Wrangler YJ for about a month now. Its a 4 cyl., 2.5 L, 5 spd manual.

I have upfront Dana 30, auburn ectab lockers, 4.88 gears, chromally one piece axled.

In the rear I have an 8.8 Ford, auburn ectab lockers, 4.88 gears, spring over.

My question right now is how aggressive of a tire can I get, I would like to run Super Swamper IROCs or Super Swamper Thornbirds, size 35 in either one?

I will have moer questions since I am new, and all advice is welcome!!

I'd stick with 35's. If you plan on driving it on the road more than off don't get something too aggressive. Nice set of TSL Radials or MT/Rs work great on road and off. I've heard from people that Thornbirds stink, never had any experience with them myself though.

With a 2.5L, I would stick to 33's. Besides, the thornbirds are not exactly the best tires out there, so I would stay away from those...

Welcome to the Z, I was just in Channahon last month for the Warrior Dash, great times.

Avoid most super swampers unless it's primarily a trail rig, they're heavy and don't balance well, best suited for offroad. A 33" or 35" radial MT tire will give you the best performance with the 4.88 gears.

Avoid the 33" Swamper radial, but the Interco TrXus might be a good match for you, or the BFG MT KM2.

Have owned Swampers for 20 plus years from 33's to 38's and loved every pair, would not buy the Thornbirds again though. I am running TSL
Radial SSR's in a 33x12.5 and could not be happier. This is not my daily driver, though I also do not trailer it to go wheelin

Agreed I had 36" thornbirds on a DD and the tread literally ripped off each tire at 3k miles.

I'm going with the 35" MTR with Kevlar next...

Sorry it took so long to reply. Unfortunately real life took over for a bit.
Ok so after all the research and opinions I went with BFG Terrains, took them out last weekend and loved them. Pulled me through some stuff that my stocks never would.

And all that say thornbirds arent the ticket, well so did all the people I talked to around here. So they were on the dont list real quick.

Now I am down to another problem. I have the auburn ected electronic for the front and rear and do not have them installed yet. No one here wants to touch them, they tell me they are crap and wont warranty them.

Can someone tell me if they have any experience with these? I can still return them, but was told that they are the best if I cant afford ARB. Does anyone have any opinion if these are good lockers.

I had friends that entered that but I was working and missed it. Heard it was a blast. My rig is trail, not a daily driver, I do have to drive it to the Cliffs, but will hopefully be in the position to be trailered soon.
