New thread not about Pit Bulls

So, I should not mention that three people and a puppy were attacked in a Denver suburb yesterday by a pitbull?

That would defeat your purpose, right?

OK! I retract the above (even if it is true!)

no, I wouldn't mention that.
As I see it, that other thread had everybody pulling pocket knives and calling names, so I thought we needed a relief thread(00) (00)

hey Cewtwo, since we are not speaking of Pit Bulls, how has the rain fall and thus mosquito population been in Colorado.
I am wondering if we can expect a nice leaf change when we get there in Fall.

It's dry here. We need rain badly. I think we are officially having a drought :(

and you bought a new lawn mower?

TC, I've mentioned to you that my parents live just a few hours south of you and they are having a normal year for rain
Is is just your area, or is it more widespread to the north or east?

Mosquitos are killer right now in the high country. It was a killer year for snow in the central mountains and a lot of the trails are just opening now.

The wildflower population is at full bloom at around 11,000 feet. It is still very wet and high mountain lakes have lots of mosquitos.

The base of Bolling Ball Hill on the Wheeler lake trail (at 11,500') has still got a lot of runoff on it.

It is getting very hot and dry on the western plains. It is a matter of time until it climbs back into the front range.

Unfortunately, at this time, you'll need insect protection with a high DEET content. Most of the mosquitos I've come into contact with recently were drinking it from the bottle as I was trying to apply it.

One extra large mosquito was starting to carry away a child before we grabbed her from it (the last part was not factual - It was an extra accentuation of what seemed at the time to be the truth).

In the fall, you will probably be OK. But for now I'd be on the watch out for them...

I know... It is a fly,but I couldn't get a mosquito graphic this cool...

Not everybody....just the regular few. p0p I've been painting my house inside so I haven't been to busy on Jeepz lately except for when I'm at work and not working. :D Ok.....I'm off to work now.

It was announced on the news today that we should expect additional West Nile Disease incidents this year due to high country wetness resulting in additional mosquito populations.

So your question is well-grounded! (mudded?)

Water way to go!

usually by the time we get up the Rockies, the temps are getting down in the lower 40's overnight and that tends to keep the skeeters at bay somewhat, but nonetheless, I hate em'

I can't believe some of the passes are just now getting open though!

Not sure. I know it's been dry here and in the Baltimore area. That's about the extent of my knowledge on the subject.

We finally got some soaking rains here... Southeast Lower Michigan was declared in a drought 2 weeks ago... We've had grass fires in the parks. Everything is brown and crispy, I hate when things get to looking like that... The city parks are supposed to be lush and green, not like a haystack. Hopefully, with the thunderstorms over the last couple days, things green up, we needed it BAD... The rest of the state, fine, plenty of rain... That's a good thing, at least.

I think we've had a few incidents of WNV out here already. I had the Mosquito Control folks come out and dump a bucket of 'skeeter fish in my pond. Before that you could see the larvae all over the pond. Now it's just hundreds of fish.
