I totally agree with the need for a separate forum for this stuff. I tend to think that religion and politics should not be on a Jeep site, and if they are, they should be in another forum.

I think that we loose alot of people due to what appears to be bickering (not to say that it is, but it at least appears to be).

For those that are interested, we aren't really loosing popularity, but aren't growing by leaps and bounds either:

Interesting graph, Terry. I was always curious as to what our numbers looked like. August seems to have taken a dive...I wonder if that's from students returning to school and not having time to surf the web, or if there's a big controversial thread in that month that kept folks away.....I'm guessing the former, though. Maybe it's the heat...I know I don't surf the web as much when I'm all sweaty!

Political Correctiveness comes to Jeepz.

Make sure you have a:
A) Merry Christmas
B) Happy Hanukkah
C) Happy Kwanzaa
D) Happy Holiday

It's "A" to my family, but please choose what is appropriate to you.

I have to apologize to anyone that I may have offended, or not offended by listing, or not listing their particular choice for celebrating, or not celebrating, the upcoming season.

I think the moderators do a darn good job of keeping what kids shouldn't see off of the board. If you don't like a post, either stop reading it....or don't reply to it.

When does a post become controversial? Is it when it's posted or when people start arguing about it?

Perhaps the new forum could be titled "Political, Religous, Racial, Cultural, Food, Hummer, Off Topic, Humerous, Entertainment, Blah Blah Blah, Etc., Etc.". Maybe we could just call it "General Chat" and put something underneath of it like "If it doesn't fit anywhere else, post it here". Yeah, that sounds like a good idea..............DARN somebody already thought of it.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! Yeah, on second thought, I agree. I really know which threads to ignore, but I just can't help reading. Maybe some duct tape on the fingers will help.....;)

There you go!!!

What many are referring to as bickering or controversial threads are normally the most pertinent or widely discussed topics in our country at the time they are discussed.

Without them we are merely cordial Jeep techies... They give Jeepz a very personal flair and we all know each other pretty well because of the off topic stuff be it political, someone buying a new shotgun, or a birthday.

I for one very much enjoy these threads when they remain civil. When they don't it is always addressed and I believe that should no longer be an issue. You all know that Sparky and I have both gotten downright childish in some past threads, but the current threads clearly show that we have put that sort of thing to bed. That is what made them unlikeable and I truly regret being a part of that but so long as things are civil then what harm are they?

The current threads are pretty doggone good and well discussed by everyone involved...

I for one very much enjoy these threads when they remain civil.

But obviously not everyone enjoys them. Personally, I see no reason to have any discussion of politics, religion, or moral beliefs on this site. Had it not been for them, I would not have lost my respect for some of the members here, nor would I have lost the respect of some of the members here.

One rule of thumb my daddy taught me that I wish I'd never ignored was to never discuss religion or politics with casual acquaintances. There aren't many faster ways to lose the trust and respect of friends than to argue politics and religion.

But obviously not everyone enjoys them.

Then they probably should avoid them. I don't enjoy the Washington Post or the Baltimore Sun, but instead of avoiding the coffeshop that I love so much because they sell them I simply just don't pick them up ;)

Question: Will this be the first thread in the new "Politically Incorrect" forum?

hmmm,... surprising mix of reactions. I have thoroughly enjoyed the variety of topics on Jeepz.com. I found the mix of stimulating conversation and tech savvy refreshing. Moving forward I post my political opinions on other boards I am a member of. It would appear my post about the Australian governments statements seemed to spark this. It is unfortunate though, because I have really enjoyed the comments of Twisted, Sparky, Mudd and others in some of these threads. This is an unusually intelligent group, and therein I enjoyed the discussions.

The nice thing about politics or religion or other emotionally charged topics is that everyone tends to have an opinion, and it draws people in who normally would remain silent on other topics. Perhaps the new guy isn't that well versed on Jeeps yet, and doesn't want to get flamed for an incorrect or uneducated statement, I am pretty certain he would be more willing to pipe in about the state of his local economy.

If my posts have offended anyone, I apologize, that was never my intent. I felt I was careful to state my opinions in a considerate manner. While I may disagree with some opinions, I respect all I have read here so far. I am curious if someone researched the growth of the site, and compared it to the dates of the more "inflamatory" threads what it would look like. I would hazard the traffic probably spiked. That is only a guess though.

I will agree that this is a very intellectual group. What few political/controversial threads I have read were impressive, and overall very respectfully done. Seems many like reading/posting to them.

I disagree with making a seperate forum for them, and then having to decide what goes there instead of the 'general' forum. It is possible for a forum to become too fragmented, and to suffer for it.

WOW! I missed this whole thing till now.
Guess thats what I get for not ever visiting the home page and going straight to my favorite forums and not looking around or paying attention to the current poll. Heck I thought is was still the one on tire size!

I have to agree with the majority here. If you don't want to get involved or be bogged down with the hot issue topics, just don't click on them.

I love the debate when it stays civil and when it doesn't I just quit posting.
This site has the best of what I love to see, Jeep talk and tech advice and a little social studies mixed in for good measure.
Some of the bigger sites, heck you're just like a tadpole in the ocean, you can't really have any meaningful chats there, by the time you post your response about 10 more post behind you in 5 minutes and it's just a shout out.

As a result of being here for over 3 years, I have gotten to know some of you better and I have exchanged phone numbers with a few and we have talked a few times and I really think thats great.

Just looking at the 1st page there is no way im reading 2 more pages of it.. just make a page that can be controversal but keep it highly monitored

Without the discussions about non Jeep things this site would get very boring. No one will stay a member for years when the same topics about tire size, lift brand etc come around on a regular basis. It is the General topics that keep people here and how we get to know each other. Even though I don't post often on the controversial topics I do enjoy reading them and I think things have remained pretty civil lately.

I don't think they need to be in a different forum but maybe add "Non Jeep related discussions" to the description.

I also voted against a new section being created for controversial topics. If someone isn't looking for a discussion about how great it is to live in Austrailia then they shouldn't click on a thread that has Austrailia in the name. Then again maybe the thread could have something to do with cool Jeeps Down Under, but after reading the first line of the post you'd probably know this. If there are some topics that are offensive or you don't want the youngins reading then you have to MONITOR what they are doing and pay attention to them. It's called active parenting or something like that I think. Stuff like this really gets me going sometimes. I could go on for a while, but I don't want to offend anyone so I'll stop now. To be honest with ya'll I'm surprised I've written this much without just stopping and deciding it's not worth it to even post another comment. :)

I think this has finally convinced me that Jeeps, and people that drive Jeeps are a bunch of idiots.

:p

I'm selling my TJ

You got it! TOYOTA!
